Ted passed peacefully on 17th January 2021 at home, surrounded by the love of his daughters, following a long period of ill-health.

Ted had so many interests and passions and truly lived life to the fullest, embracing all it had to offer. He was first and foremost a father, the most doting, encouraging and fun father we could have asked for. He loved cricket, both playing and spectating and spent many Sundays at his home ground - Nutfield.
He enjoyed travel and loved meeting many different people from around the world and sampling their cultures, whether that meant adorning the house with Far Eastern art or bringing home an enormous steel drum from the Caribbean! Even after four decades in the trade he still took so much joy in his work and could often be found 'playing' with stones late into the evening.

Known for his humour and wit, his capacity to make people laugh was a gift and Ted had such zest for life, a party was not a party without him. He had a kind and generous spirit and his warmth touched the lives of many. He will be greatly missed but will be forever in our hearts.

Ted always spoke with such admiration for the charity: Samaritans. He had hoped to volunteer for them once he retired, but sadly did not get the chance. If you would like to make a donation in Ted's memory please visit our just giving page.

Although I didn’t know Ted personally I truly believe that his daughters are the selfless and caring people they are because of his influence and that his spirit will live on in their memories

Whenever I was in Ted's company, he made me laugh. What a gift! His quick wit and wicked sense of humour brightened any conversation - in fact just that cheeky twinkle in his eye was enough! His generosity of spirit, warmth and love of meeting people came from the heart - nothing was ever too much trouble to help his family and friends. He leaves a big hole in our lives but his spirit will always be with us. May you rest in peace, Ted xxx

I was lucky enough to be one of ‘Ted’s Ladies’, those of us who worked with Ted at Daniels, although it never really felt like work as Ted was such fantastic fun ❤️ Always ready with a quip, a funny story or a joke, he was also incredibly kind, caring and thoughtful. He was one of life’s true gents and I feel blessed to have called him my friend. Sleep well Ted, you will be missed so much xxx

Ted, you will leave a huge hole in your family and friends lives. You taught us all so much despite your struggles , and that’s what made you so caring. Rest in peace Ted and may your family draw strength from knowing they were all loved so much.

Such fond memories of working with him in the shop for 5 years. We had so many laughs, and often used to get the giggles just before a customer came in, or as the phone rang and we struggled as we tried to collect ourselves together! Miss you Ted xx

Ted was a great supporter of both the local retail/business scene and Reigate Business Guild. A true gentleman and a man who embodied the idea of a local retailer, always recognisable, friendly and happy to engage in the aims of the business guild to enhance and protect the town. Please accept our sincere condolences , we have certainly lost a true friend of Reigate.”

My abiding memory of Ted will be his mastery of telling a funny story. He had a very infectious laugh and I never stopped laughing when I was with him. He supplied us with our beautiful engagement and wedding rings 32 years ago.
