In loving memory of Carol Elaine Ruth Johnston who sadly passed away on 25th January 2021.

Carol was born to William (Bill) and Margaret (Maggie) Lewis on 26th September 1943 in Bermondsey, London. She was the second youngest of five siblings and throughout their lives always maintained a close relationship with her brother and sisters.

She was happily married to Ray Johnston who sadly lost his relatively short battle with cancer at the age of just 43 in 1986. Carol did go on to later find love and companionship again with Stan Daniels and they enjoyed their time together until his sad passing. Carol has three children, Raymond, Clare and David. She was also Nanna to six grandchildren - Rachel, Oliver, Ed, Luke, Holly and Owen.

Carol had always attended the Catholic church, her faith was very important to her. It gave us great comfort that Carol had such faith in her journey ahead. She took up several voluntary roles within the church including helping with trips to Lourdes, she managed the church Credit Union and became a voluntary minister, delivering communion into the homes of those parishioners that were ill or unable to attend. Carol loved singing in the church choir and in her later years joined the Canvey Community Choir - we all really enjoyed attending her performances. She also enjoyed her walking club, The Women's Institute and the company of her many friends, particularly Margaret Decruz and Phyllis Johnson who always kept in contact.

Her main pleasure in life was always spending time with her children and grandchildren. She had a wonderful sense of humour and always enjoyed playing with the children - from putting on an impromptu performance of Little Red Riding Hood, to playing her favourite board games. Carol was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but happy and beautiful memories.

Everyone who knew Carol knows that she was kind, gentle and loving. She always saw the best in people and appreciated all that she had, despite losing so many loved ones along the way - she will always remain such an inspriration to us all. We feel extremely lucky to have had Carol in our lives during her 77 years and we are very grateful for every single one of them.

Throughout her battle with dementia Carol always remained happy and was as sweet as she always was.

Forever in our hearts.

Thank you to everyone that has taken the time to write messages, light candles, post pictures and give donations.

Mum would be very humbled by your kind words and generosity.

She truly was a lovely lady, who will be greatly missed.

Thank you to those that are able to attend the funeral, especially for those that travelled a long way, it was really appreciated and lovely to see you all.

Dementia has had and is still having a huge impact within our family and we can only hope that in time they will find a cure that will stop this cruel and devastating illness.

Your donations are so gratefully received and have gone way beyond any expectations, thank you so much 💖

Aunt Carol who you can only speak well of. Memories of us as young girls putting on shows for our parents when we went to visit nan and grandad Lewis on sundays. Such fun and laughter. She made my wedding dress and we even had fun doing that. Carol will always be remenbered with great fondness and love by all our family.

From the moment I met Carol she was warm, caring, funny, and loving all in one.. as was Ray David & Claire such a wonderful family.
Carol went on to spend some quality time with my dad Stan Daniell first as friends then later on partners and I can truly say she made him the happiest person he had even been in his 60 years.. They spent many weekends away, holidays abroad and this was shared with Ron & Eddie Lewis in the south of France.
I picked Carol & dad up from the airport once when they returned from The South of France early in the relationship, and they walked through departures hand in hand.. my dads smile was from ear to ear...and they both never stopped looking at each other "with that glint"
I said to my dad on his own later that day have you something to tell me... and he said Son I am the happiest man in the world right now... And this is how Carol made us all feel who knew her.
she will be sadly missed by all but we know she believed she is going to further journeys with loved ones... God Bless you Carol xxxxx

Leigh Seber donated £20 in memory of Carol

I had the pleasure of getting to know Carol over the years through David and Gemma. Every time I met Carol it was obvious how much she loved her family and how proud she was of each and every one of them. I always found her to be so kind and gentle with a quiet strength as well as a great sense of humour. It is very rare to find someone who always looks for the good in people and I know her kindness and goodness comes shining through when you meet any one of her children. I am glad to have got to spend time celebrating many nice occasions in Carol’s company. Rest in peace lovely lady xx
