Brian Wood loved his family - four daughters, one son and 7 grandchildren.
He loved his dogs, his aviary, his fish pond, the tortoise, feeding the wild birds. Basically he loved animals but dogs were his absolute favourite.
He loved his time in the London Salvage Corps (Fire Service) from the early 60s to the 80s. Every year since around 1985 he attended the Old Boy's Reunion at Christmas time to have a beer and reminisce with his old friends and colleagues. He was a member of the British Fire Services Association, offering training to Private fire services and running competitions
.
He worked for Tower Hamlets Council, started as Health & Safety officer, then leading on to his career as Emergency Planning Officer. One of his biggest moments with Tower Hamlets was when the Docklands Bomb went off - he got the call and we did not see him for about 3 days whilst he helped take charge of local residents and keep the site secure.
He loved being a Freemason, he joined over 30 years ago and was a member of many lodges. He loved to attend Ladies nights with me (Anne) and our families and friends. He loved these nights honouring the Master and the Ladies and of course, to dance - Brian loved to dance!
Brian loved being a Councillor, he was first elected in 2004 and was still a standing Councillor when he died. His proudest time as Councillor was becoming the Mayor of Castle Point Council. Brian and I had two fantastic years, one year as Deputy and one year as Mayor. Hard work, but he and I would not have missed it for anything.
He started playing Bowls too about 2 years ago, thoroughly enjoying both indoor and outdoor bowls.
He enjoyed holidays abroad to Spain and the South of France. He loved Benidorm!
He loved to go on a Cruise, just us two or with our friends. He loved a drink in the British Legion or the Conservative club.
We used to go on Line Dancing weekends with friends from the Culpepper Club in Basildon - some fantastic memorable weekends.
Brian also enjoyed short breaks in our caravan - mainly because he could take his beloved Dogs, relax in the sun and just do as you please.
Brian passed away on Monday 18th January. He will be missed by so many people and sadly due to the restrictions on attendance at funerals, many people who would have wanted to be there will not be able to. Hopefully they will be able to watch the webcast to at least be there "virtually ".
We will miss him so very much. We are thankful for the fantastic memories we have of him. A long life well lived but so very sad that he has been taken from us too soon. We will never ever forget him - he lives on in our hearts.
Sleep tight Brian. You were loved, you are loved, you will always be loved.
