Thomas George Webster (9 Sep 1936 - 16 Jan 2021)
Funeral Director
In loving memory of Thomas George Webster who sadly passed away on 16th January 2021
9th September 1936 - 16th January 2021
When Thomas was born his mother and father wanted to call him George Thomas Webster, but when his mum went to register his name she ended up getting it round the wrong way and he became Thomas George. To all of his family though he was always George but to everyone else he became Tom.
Thomas was born in Romford and grew up on Norfolk Road as part of a large family, helping to deliver bread for his Dad a baker. The family later moved to East Ham.
When Tom left school he worked for a short time at a solicitors in London, with roles including collection of rent and delivery of paper work. Later, he became a sailor in the Navy and travelled the world working on Aircraft Carriers maintaining the planes....no he didn’t tell stories like Uncle Albert ‘during the war’ but he did have a great tale to tell you about all the places he visited and some of the antics they got up to.
After the Navy, he continued working on aircraft at Southend Airport. The airport has changed a lot over the years since the days when he used to be able to take Andrew there to see the aircraft and get on board while they were undergoing maintenance.
For a number of years now, Tom played bowls at the Jacks Centre. Playing in various leagues over the years and running some in more recent years, he always enjoyed spending time there with other members and friends.
Tom was a family man at heart and loved spending time with his grandchildren Joshua, Daniel and Abigail. From swimming and cycling to football he always encouraged them to get out and enjoy life. Time was happily spent taking Josh when he was younger to swimming lessons and spending time on the beach. He loved to see Abigail at swimming lessons or riding her bike, while the majority of weekends were spent on the touchline watching Daniel play for Havering Royals, always positive, cheering and encouraging them all.
