Allan,

So sad to say farewell, or maybe bon voyage is more fitting, and it feels like it’s come too soon. Always the healthiest, and most active of parents. You accomplished so much in your time, more than most men do in 10 lifetimes. And you did so with kindness, compassion and in good humour—a true gent. You inspire me to strive to do better in every possible way. You leave behind so much, beautiful artifacts, like your children, Sarah and Simon, and your grandchildren who carry you on with them. I’ll remember you with a glass of wine in your hand, and a wry smile on your face, in the sunshine of your patio, and at the Sunday roast dining table. Also, at the side of a freezing cold, muddy football pitch on a bitter Winter’s day. Rest In Peace.

Peter and family. x

Allan was a caring, unassuming neighbour, always willing to help. We will miss the chats over the fence with him. A gentle gentleman.

The commission is over and our last watch relieved. The order came from above: Finished with main engines, Chief! Our duty is done; there will be no more strife as we close down the engines, on the ship of life.

From HMS Caledonia Series 61 Artificer Apprentices Old Boys.
We will forever remember the extremely dry sense of humour and love of whisky 'nightcaps' of this quiet and thoughtful man.
A consummate professional he has been a great colleague, friend, Shipmate and Naval brother to us over the last 54 years; he will be very greatly missed from our ranks.
