In loving memory of Neil Smith who sadly passed away on 28th December 2020 with his family by his side

Neil was only 40 years old and leaves his wife, Candice and young son Tommy

Neil was loved by many and has friends across the globe. His sudden death has brought a sadness to us all and has left a huge void in the lives of those close to him

Neil will be remembered for his sense of humour, his sporting talent and being a hero to his little boy

The family are asking any donations to be made to Heart Link charity based at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester who supported Neil, Candice and Tommy through an extremely tough time and continue to provide help and support to families and children with heart defects

Capital One donated £500 in memory of Neil

On behalf of all associates at Capital One UK

Neil you were taken too soon; you Candice and Tommy should have been at the start of a long and happy life together. But you will never be forgotten and I’m sure you will be the brightest shining star in the sky just for Tommy. Rest peacefully in the knowledge that Candice and Tommy will be looked after by us all. Thank you for making my best friend so happy. Xxx

Smithy you will be badly missed my friend. A class act both on and off the pitch. I enjoyed our time together playing for the thin blue line and enjoyed watching you glide around making the game of football look so easy. RIP buddy 🙏💙 Benno

We were so saddened to hear the news; a great bloke who we hoped to have back at the club this season. I'll always remember running around in the heat of pre-season with you, two centre midfielders 34 and 37 in the baking sun! Our deepest condolences to Candice, Tommy and all of your family. Rest in peace, Neil.

So many great times with Smithy on the football pitch with the police, he even dragged me out of retirement to play again at Ravenshead! That was Neil though, he made you feel 10 feet tall and capable of anything. One of a kind, always smiling and a wonderful man. Honoured to have known you and privileged to call you a friend.
Rest peacefully Neil
