We are so sad to say goodbye to 'Uncle Eric'. He has always been a constant in our lives. Our families have been close for such a very long time...even before Mum and Dad -Peter and Rose) were married.
I remember us calling and playing on a Saturday when Peter and Eric went to The Derby County home matches. I remember the pantomime trips, the bonfire parties and birthday parties etc as a child. Once an adult Uncle Eric and Auntie Hilda would be at our weddings, New Years Eve parties at Mum and Dads and enjoy holidays together with them too. They always kept in touch with Mum and Dad and often met up for a cup of tea and a chat. When Dad passed they remained much valued friends to Mum. I personally always loved to meet Uncle Eric because he always had a smile, was cheery and I will miss him. I'm sure that Dad, Auntie Hilda and Uncle Eric will be having some cups of teas and a chat up there and will greet Mum with a hugs, smiles and open arms once it is her time to go. Long term friends reunited. Sending much love from all our family to all your family The Townsends.

Dear Great Grandad.

We are sorry that we can't be at your funeral in person, but we are thinking of you, and the memories you left us with:

- Talking about life in the war and the bomb that exploded near your farm
- Playing football when you were younger, and supporting Derby County
- The dedication you put into your church and local community
- Singing hymns in church
- Telling a joke about how a zebra is a horse wearing pyjamas
- Cutting Steve down when he got caught in a tree
- Telling us to be careful to not break your ornaments when we were playing indoors
- Never allowing anyone else to make a cup of tea.
- Complaining when people let a draft into the kitchen when you lived in Newchurch

When we talk or think of you, we will feel happy, as we know this is what you would want.

Love Amelie, Henry, Hector, Steve, and Marie xx
