In loving memory of Joan Marion Scott who sadly passed away at home on 11th December 2020.
Joan was first and foremost a wonderful wife and mother and in latter years a much loved grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother - Mum was never happier than when she had a baby in her arms - but she was also a much loved friend to many.
As a mother she was brilliant - always there, never judgemental , a great listener and a focal point where we all wanted to meet. Her outstanding care for our Dad and subsequently Barry (for whom she was still the main carer when she was in her 90's) were examples of her selfless nature and desire to make a difference.
Mum lived in Addington for almost all of her life and has been an outstanding member of the community supporting all activities and more importantly supporting people - we could not list all the things she has done but they range from being Churchwarden for over 40 years, being on the Village Hall committee since it was built in the 1970's, a school governor, charity collector, visitor to the sick or lonely, Fruit and Veg show co-ordinator, organising the special needs cricket days and old peoples lunches and the list goes on and on. She had an insatiable energy for helping out and trying to make the world a better place.
Mum was a wonderfully kind and caring person who loved all people irrespective of their position or influence. She always had a ready smile and a willing hand. No matter what her own difficulties or struggles in life were she was always optimistic and could always see someone who was worse off than her, which would put into perspective her own difficulties or worries.
Apart from close friends and family one of the things that gave her the greatest pleasure was her association with Addington Church both spiritually and practically in terms of caring for the building and contents. It was her faith that helped to ease the difficult past few months when poor health made life very challenging for her.
We know that at times of loss people often see things through rose tinted glasses but Mum - Joan - was truly a special lady and she has definitely left the World a better place for her having been here. She can justly claim "to have had a life very well lived" and she will be sorely missed.
Donations in memory of Joan can be made either c/o Nick Scott to fund a project that will be a lasting memorial at Addington Church or to The Heart of Kent Hospice via the link below.
