In loving memory of Maurice Alan Dengate who sadly passed away on 20th November 2020 aged 82 years.

Maurice was born 13th September 1938 in Chatham, Kent and was proud of his Grammar School education at Sir Joseph Williamson Mathematical School.

During his career in Local Government he met and married his wife Rita on his birthday in 1974 and they enjoyed 42 years of marriage before her untimely passing in 2016.

In his leisure time Maurice was an avid birder, which saw him travel to almost all the Countries of the World, was a great lover of cricket and was usually up to date with his tech.

Maurice was a regular donator to many charities and those close to him will know he was never afraid to speak his mind and was seldom wrong…. but would acknowledge ‘a job well done’ with his knowing nod.

The funeral will take place at 3pm on 4th January 2021 at Medway Crematorium.

For anyone who we do not have a direct contact with and would like to pay their last respects, please leave a message and we will look to reply. I’ve been going through my Father’s things and found some pictures of Woodfields CC which featured Maurice. I then thought I’d google him and unfortunately came across this obituary. My father and Maurice were great friends and I remember him and Rita coming to our house on City Way on many occasions. I’m sorry for your loss and send my best wishes.

I first met Maurice in late 50s as a talented and fierce opponent in inter-departmental cricket and from then on as a colleague from a different department. Retirement, Kent cricket and Wetherspoons gave me the opportunity to really get to know and appreciate him as a straight talking but generous spirited person who I was privileged to be able to call a friend.
Rest in Peace.

Memories of Uncle Maurice and also Rita at this time.
Whilst I have many, I always seem to come back to when we used to visit when I was younger with mum & dad as I used to get a treat of a 'real' Coke rather than Mr Bacon or similar which we had at home.... Plus I also came away with full pockets to Duracell batteries (most probably courtesy of KCC...).
Later memories was him testing my intellect with one of his ad-hoc quizzes. It was very rare that I came out equal, let alone on top.. But did surprise him a couple of times.
Rest in peace and hope from where you are you can see some of the wonderful tributes
Steve, Emma and Yasmin x

I have wonderful memories of Maurice as a boss, a sportsman, a good friend. Always level-headed, he would resolve work problems with little fuss where others flustered. An occasional blunt comment would be followed with a cheeky laugh and nobody could take offence. RIP Maurice, now with Rita again, both sorely missed.

I will sorely miss this most remarkable and interesting man who was a pleasure to work under and to socialise with. He was down to earth and oused common sense and his lively brain was always in overdrive. RIP Maurice my friend. John Henry.

In loving memory of Maurice and my beloved sister who features in so many of the photographs posted here. May they may be together again.
Remembrance is a golden chain Death tries to break but all in vain. To have, to love, and then to part, is the greatest sorrow of one's heart. The years may wipe out many things, but this they wipe out never - the memory of those happy days, when we were all together.
