An incredible dad, grandad & brother from another mother (to John Thornton) A kind, generous (to a fault) man who was always willing to lend a helping hand in any way he could. He did so much for his children, being the best Dad he could be. As we all know, he enjoyed a beer or two & sometimes turned the air blue if something annoyed him.

Dad and his loving wife of 50 years suffered lots of tragedy in their lives, but not once did they let it get in the way of how they raised all four of their children.

Dad was never prouder than when he was with his granddaughters, he spent a small fortune on a beautiful wooden play house for them, a battery powered car and most recently a wooden play bench. Iain has a fond memory of walking in on Dad in the garden proudly giving it a coat of varnish. He really did live for his family.

Dad was a man who always thought his son would grow up to be good with his hands, as he was, but unfortunately Iain can’t put a shelf up to save his life.

Once lockdown restrictions were eased, the 8 of us, Dad, Iain, (Kate & bump), El, Tim, Isla & Ela enjoyed many Sundays in Dads garden drinking, eating, laughing & just enjoying each other's company after what had been a strange year . Dad was ever the joker, telling Isla & Ela to look down the hose as he turned on the tap.

He was incredibly selfless & truly had a heart of gold. Dad is loved & will be missed more than words can express.

I didn’t’ know this man with my same name. After reviewing the entries on this site he appears as a remarkable person. I only hope I can do the name an honor as he did.

In memory of Steve, your wonderful Dad & Grandad. Such a kind, fun and caring man. We feel so fortunate that the friendship of our parents, that started as neighbours, continues strong in the generation of their children despite us now living across the world. Some bonds, like memories, last forever. With all our love, Katie, Nikki & Rich xx

Such a beautiful service for such a kind, caring and devoted man, Dad and Grand-dad. Know that we are all with you in holding such fond memories of him. From him helping me to walk Spike with him when I was tiny, to the many many exchanges of face pulling across the street at each other in fondness and jest. The awesome Wendy House he built in the garden at Westleigh Ave, and then again for his grandchildren, to sharing time with him and you at The Elms and in more recent years our reunions when we’ve been able to travel ‘home’ from Australia. Decades of memories that will last forever. You are a beautiful family and a credit to both Steve and Sandy. Forever in our hearts 💕

Steve, a true gentleman. He always made me feel so welcome whenever I would turn up at the family home, as an awkward teenager or an awkward adult it really meant a lot. We would have a chat about his dogs or what jobs he had going on at the time. Softly spoken and with a fantastic laugh, he will be so missed. Love George and Katherine xxx

I can only echo the lovely words that have been said about Steve. A kind, gentle caring man, a wonderful husband, father, grandad and our best friend.
So many wonderful memories of times spent together from our first holiday to Majorca in ‘68 to our last holiday in Ibiza and everything in between.
Oh how we will miss you Steve as we miss Sandy. xxxxxx
