I have such fond memories of Bob. Best friend of my dear Dad and Godfather Pete. Family gatherings, camping and parties. The Burchell family such a big part of my childhood. I have some fabulous photos taken by Bob of Dad, Tim and I, from one of those wonderful family holidays. He was loved and will be missed by so many.

I am comforted to think that Dad was waiting at a bar somewhere for him, happy to see him, but angry that he's joined him so soon. I've posted a photo that I have always felt summed them up.

Sending sympathies and love to all that knew him.

Bob... husband, dad, granddad, friend, neighbour, engineer, font of knowledge, chef, host. Different roles to different people, but to everyone, a true gentleman with a great big heart, who would help anyone.
I love you Bob and was proud to call you my step dad. I am so grateful to you for being the best granddad I could have ever wished for to Owen, and husband to my precious mum. I miss you so much and will keep you in my heart and will remember you fondly every single day.

I've known Bob for maybe 25 years. You knew exactly where you stood with him, he was direct, which I liked. He had strong principles and was a good man. He was kind, generous, a great cook and good company. But most of all, he was the best Grandad to Owen that he could have possibly been. He has been taken from us all way to soon and I will miss him. Rest in Peace Bob x

Bob and I met at Ravenscroft Jnr School when we were both 7. We became best friends and spent all of our childhood together. We remained best mates when we left school and spent our late teens and early 20’s together going to pubs, clubs and holidays. We remained friends for the rest of our lives, a friendship that lasted over 65 years. I will never forget our childhood and the lasting friendship we had. I will never forget when you helped Jan decorate my parents bedroom and papered around the wardrobes. Bob was a great boy, man and friend and I will miss him very much. Thanks for all the memories Bob. All my love to a true friend. Pete

  • Hello Pete You may remember me, Alan Howard from Canning Town. Bob and me were also great friends in our teens and early 20s. We both got. Introduced to surfing at Newquay, we spent many weeks camping at Newquay and having a ball, many a boozy night we enjoyed with all our crowd. I remember another occasion we were camping on the top of the cliffs at Hastings and woke up at 3.0 am looking at the stars, the wind had blown our tent away. Yet another funny episode Bob and me and seven others which included some local girls we were camped in a 5 man tent near Hastings and one of the girls had worked at an ice cream booth nearby, she should us how to open it up, so there we all at at one in the morning all eating ice creams. Bet this story was not shared with his family. BTW the tent was too cramped for any goings on just lots of good laughs. I have lived in Tasmania since 1970 and another funny episode when myself and family visited Bob in late 80,s at Southend. I just happened to see that Bob had served up beers for our 3 kids. I said what are you giving them beer for and he replied “ oh I thought all kids in Aus drunk beer” have had a good laugh at that I had not been in contact with Bob for a number of years I am saddened to find out that Bob has passed away as he was a really good true friend. I forgot to add Bob was best man when Sue and I got married plus he was the official photographer, I am looking at one of our wedding photos he took as I am typing this May I pass on my condolences to his family Regards Alan Howard
