In loving memory of Marjory Fraser Wilson who sadly passed away on 14th November 2020.

Marjory Fraser Cameron was born on Sunday 25 March 1928 at the home of her parents in the Old High Street in Perth. Marjory’s father was Robertson (‘Bob’) McGregor Cameron (30) a postal worker from Perth. Her mother was Jessie (‘Jett’) Cameron (nee MacDonald) (24) and was a former housemaid at the Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire who came from the village of Muir of Ord in Ross-shire. Marjory's father was badly wounded in September 1918 in northern France during the closing stages of the First World War.

Marjory was the eldest of three girls. Her sister Mary was born in 1929 and Jetta born in 1930. Mary is now in her 91st year and is still living in Perth. Jetta died in her 18th year in 1948 during a meningitis outbreak in Perth.

After attending Caledonian Road School in Perth along with her sisters, Marjory attended Secretarial School. This made her proficient in both typing and Pitman’s shorthand, skill-sets needed decades before the digital age. Marjory spent several years working as a secretary at the General Accident Insurance Company Headquarters in Perth, before moving to Glasgow in the early 1960’s.

Several other secretarial positions then followed. For several years towards the end of her working life, Marjory was the Secretary to Professor Gordon Cowie, the Public Law Professor at Glasgow University.

Marjory’s first marriage was to Robert Lewis Sutherland of Glasgow between 1950 to the mid-1950’s. Their first home was in Hebden Bridge in Northumberland. Marjory’s second marriage was to Alexander Wilson of Glasgow in early April 1966. This marriage lasted over 33 years until December 1999 and his passing.

There were two children from Marjory’s first marriage. Her daughter Jetta Cameron Sutherland was born in February 1951 followed in January 1952 by her son Alistair Fraser Sutherland. Marjory had four grandchildren; Jetta McGill and Robert McGill, children of her daughter. Also Leo Cameron Sutherland and Christian Fraser Sutherland, children of her son. Jetta now lives with her family in the Netherlands and Robert in Seattle, Washington State. Leo and Christian are now London based musicians.

Marjory had three great grandchildren; Estelle and Elise, granddaughters who live with their parents in the Netherlands. Marjory’s most recent great grandchild, Thomas Steen Sutherland, was born in Brookwood Surrey in early August 2020.

I was very sorry to hear of Marjory’s passing. Our family can well remember Marjorie working as Dad’s secretary at the University of Glasgow and sometimes meeting her if we visited his office. I hope you have many happy memories to share at this time.

Dear Nanny,

we are all so sad you have left us. We all have the fondest memories of you growing up. You were so kind, interested and warm. With the end of one era it is the beginning of another and we all hope we have made you proud of us.

You live in on spirit. Rest in Peace, put your feet up and pour yourself a big G & T.

All my love,

Leo xxxx
