In loving memory of Bernard William Durrant who sadly passed away on 14th November 2020.
Bernard was born on 7th December 1931 to Alice and Frank in Stoke Holy Cross. He was the eldest of 3 children . As a result of The Butler Education Act of 1944, Bernard was taken out of Stoke Primary aged 13 and sent to Great Yarmouth Grammar School. He then attended Horticultural college and completed his National Service as a Radio Operator in the RAF. He enjoyed riding motorbikes and had a Triumph bike. He married Jean in 1963 and she persuaded him to get a car. He worked for Norfolk County Council for over 30 years as a Trading Standards Officer and enjoyed playing golf, badminton and tennis. Bernard and Jean had 2 daughters, Rosemary and Susan, and 4 grandchildren; Seth, Ellie, Alfie and Maisie.
When Bernard retired he became chair and grounds person for the local bowling club and organised long walks for a rambling group. Throughout his life he was a devoted gardener growing his own fruit and vegetables and making fantastic jam. When Jean developed dementia, he became her carer.
In 2019, Bernard developed vascular dementia and moved to Beauchamp house in July of that year.
He was a lovely man and will be hugely missed.
