In loving memory of Jean Hirst who sadly passed away on 7th November 2020

Jean was born on the 20 Oct 1939 in the small village of Holme in the Holme valley - Huddersfield.
She married Stuart on the 17th December 1960 and moved further down the valley into Holmfirth were they lived in a beautiful house for over 30 years. They had two children, Jane ( 1963 ) and David ( 1966 ).

Jeano loved living at the Holt, a beautiful house with a busy lane at the bottom, whereby she would often chat with walkers passing by. Jeano was always in the know of any goings on, in and around the Holme Valley! Only a stones throw from her very good friends, John and Jean up the road, many a happy New Years Eve spent together.

Gardening was her passion along with dogs, chickens, turkeys, ducks, parrots, budgies and pigeons........ she had them all. She loved to tend and weed the garden with her little helpers Robert, James, Faith, Martha and Elsa by her side.

Remembering family holidays at the cabin near Glen-ridding in the Lake District. Jeano at the helm, cooking everyone an English breakfast, great times had by all, happy memories!

Jeano loved Christmas, decorating the house, baking Christmas cakes, buying presents for everyone and making sure all the grandchildren received the biggest sack of presents ever! Jeano cooked the turkey and always put on a fantastic spread, we just about managed to all fit around the table at Farnley.

Jeano maintained a strong link with all her family in Canada, a place she fell in love with from her first visit in 2005. Following on from her travels, Jeano loved to have family over to stay, showing them the best of Yorkshire, even going further afield to Wales, where the the incident with the ashtray occurred, say no more!

Everyone always knew where you stood with her, she sugar coated nothing it was black or white. No-one ever crossed the Jeano twice!!

Jeano - Jeano - Jeano

Rest in Peace - You will be sorely missed. XXX

I am so sorry to hear about Jean’s passing. What an amazing women she was. So many fond memories but one I will never forget when we came to England to meet you all we went on a shopping trip. On our way home Jean had a black marker that she was crossing out all the prices on the items she purchased. We asked her what she was doing and she said oh Stuart doesn’t need to know I paid full price for all of these items...I do this all the time. I can still hear her saying this. Love it and great advice! Always makes me laugh when I think of this trip. Wonderful lady. XO

Stuart and Family

We are so sorry to hear this news. Jean or “Grandma Hen” as we knew her, through the boys, was such fun to be with and had the most infectious laugh. Her love for the family shone through - we know she will be sadly missed. Our thoughts and love are with you at this sad time. xx
