In loving memory of John Robert Newsome who sadly passed away on 19th October 2020.

Bob was the son of John and Mary, the brother of James, the husband of Barbara, the father of Anna and Hugh, the grandfather of Elizabeth, Toby and Charlotte, the great grandfather of Oscar and the colleague and friend to many. He fulfilled all these roles superbly and he'll always be loved and remembered for his kindness, his humour, his patience and his many other great qualities, not least his extraordinary ability to include the word 'train' in almost every other sentence!

I have lovely happy Shobnall memories of Bob, he was patient, enertaining, generous and fun. My children remember him as the 'Honey Man' as he used to bring us his Dad's honey!
My thoughts are with the family, he talked about you lots.
All my love, Julie Ennis

When I saw the message from Bob on LinkedIn I thought wow a message from Bob, I really must get in touch , but was then so saddened to hear that of his passing. I worked with him for many years - he was very special.

Bob,
Its a sad day for us all when a gentleman, scholar, transport fanatic and humourist such as you leaves this world.

I will miss our lunch meetings and our conversations as well your desire to introduce me to the next establishment that serves Castle Rock ale.
You will be missed.
Rest in Peace

When I look back to the 70s when Bob and I worked together and shared houses, I can't believe how short a period of time that actually was. I remember his sense of humour and his generosity, and our shared interests in railways and beer! Sadly our paths diverged, but we still kept in touch if only via Christmas cards. We will always remember Bob with great affection.

I had the pleasure of working with Bob on and off for a few years and always remember the sense of humour and warmth that he had. Also spent some very enjoyable evenings with him over a few beers and some great stories. He will be missed!
