In loving memory of Philip Richard Winterton who sadly passed away on 19th October 2020.

Phil was born on 3rd June 1957. Both him and his elder brother were raised by their mother Shirley. He attended Broomhill and then St Johns school. After leaving school he got a job at Baggley’s builders, then on to supersave where he met Carol. Phil went on to work for the British Coal board starting as a miner, then moved into the stores at the pit, before working his way up into IT which was mainly self taught. Phil finally went to work at Wilkos head office in Worksop. He worked there for 25 years.

He lived in Mansfield all his life, with his wife Carol. Carol and Phil were happily married for 44 years. In 1981 they had a son called Leigh, who went on to marry Catherine in 2012. In 2010 Phil’s first grandchild, Jake came along. Followed by his granddaughter Gracie in 2013. Phil absolutely adored his grandchildren, and his family. He was at his happiest when spending time with them.

Phil had a few hobbies that came and went over the years, but his main passion was his garden. He would spend hours making it look beautiful and his family would refer to it as his Chelsea flower show. Phil and Carol also loved spending time at their caravan in Skegness, where they made many happy memories.

Phil will be remembered for his love of technology, his garden and DIY skills, being able to turn his hand to anything which he loved doing with his son Leigh.

Phil was a kind, proud family man who always put his family and friends first, and would do anything for anyone. He will be sadly missed by everyone.

Remembering Phil with great fondness. A lovely man, who’s love for his family was clear to see. We have a habit of speaking in the past tense when a loved one dies. But that love, received and given is always present. Thinking of you all, Kate, Dave and Bodhi xxx

A great person to know and I will always remember our conversations about the strength required to battle such a disease. Really sorry that you finally lost that battle, Phil.

On behalf of the IT team and also from wilko, I want to make all Phil's family aware of how much we appreciated his long service and all that he achieved. He will be missed by all the team here. Lisa Wilkinson has also asked for her condolences to go to all Phil's family and a thanks for his service to the family business.

I feel honoured to have known and worked so long and closely with you, we've had some ups and downs over the years and some real laughs in between. You'll be truly missed...I mean, who on earth am I going to blame for my mistakes now? ;) RIP and sleep well fella x
