In loving memory of my dad Ian R Hichens who sadly passed away on 21st September 2020.

Ian was a kind, outgoing and loving man. Despite his health issues, Ian had a wicked sense of humour and was full of life. His bravery was inspiring, and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Ian was a huge part of the Burton Joyce Players where he showcased his huge character and love of acting. Off stage, he brought his warm character and humour with him everywhere he went.

Sadly, Ian suffered with Kidney Disease which meant that he spent a great deal of time at the Dialysis Unit in Nottingham City Hospital. He always received the best care, and the staff at the Dialysis Unit made a difficult aspect of his life as enjoyable as possible. Therefore, in memory of Ian, we would be very grateful for any donations for the Unit.

Please feel free to add your own pictures and messages for Ian so that we can all remember him.

Unfortunately we are not able to accept any more attendees to the funeral due to current restrictions on numbers, but please feel free to share your memories of Ian below.

Thank you.

Richard

It was wonderful that I had the opportunity to say a final “goodbye” to you Ian. So ironic that we only recently got in touch again after all these years. I wish that we could have spent much more time together in later life. Memories will always remind us of the friends that we made through growing up. You brought much to so many people and I my thoughts are with all of your loved ones and friends. I know that your unforgettable presence will be a loss for those who bring laughter into our lives also bring brightness even through the darkest times xxx

In memory of Ian from all your friends at The Burton Joyce Stroke Club. Thank you, Ian, for being there when one of us needed that little extra support. You had an uncanny knack of reading the signs and giving a hug at the right time.

Good bye old friend. You were one of a kind. Hanging round together in our late teens and early twenties was such a blast. Who can forget the old blue mini that we blew up coming back from Newcastle in a couple of hours.

I shalt forget you putting on an American accent and knocking on doors in different Trent Valley villages as you pretended to be looking for your long lost relative "Corey Johnson".
Even funnier when we went to the Moon In Mortem and the bar maid asked you if you had found him yet.

Life was never dull with you around. I could tell stories of our scraps all day as I know many others can.

You will be sadly missed and the world has lost one of the good guys.

Rest in peace mate.

Joe

Ian really was a one of kind. He loved his family, and was loved so much in return.
So many memories that I hold so dear, playing in the garden when me, Richard and my sister were little. Or more recently when he tried to sell an old boyfriend of mine an 'antique' snakeskin belt with a gold snake head on amongst other 'collectables', or when he stole 3 table legs out of our neighbours skip - for no other reason than to make us laugh.

The best uncle me and my sister could have hoped for, and the best Dad to Richard x

Such very sad news. I remember some of the very best of times together at Burton Joyce doing pantomime. Ian was a great actor and such fun. Our thoughts are with Richard, and the rest of Ian's family.

So sad to hear the the big man was taken from us, been thinking about all the memories

The blue bottle...? Anyone remember the Mini.. cruising the streets of BJ and further afield. Ian used to pick it up and move it into a parking space
BJ youth club And the trip to Gt Yarmouth what a laugh that was
Did anyone know Ian was the peoples poet? wonder if any of those lines still exist.. I remember “Aren’t parents and funny thing” ...sure his kids might relate to that one!

Anyone who saw Cocktail must have recognised that in Ian and I being the greatest barman act ever in the Marquis at Hoveringham (sadly also gone)
I remember picking Ian up from work once.. on me moped!.. we wheelied all the way back to Bulcote, such a laugh.

Lost contact as you do with many of your mates from your youth when you’re brining up your own brood, I randomly bumped into him after 25 years in Southwell and we chatted whilst he was waiting for one of his kids. The man never changed from when we were kids, still joking around.

I had a messenger chat with him in June this year, cant believe he’s gone

It’s so crap we cant meet to say goodbye to this great man properly

You’ll be missed mate, love to the Family.
