Funeral Director
In loving memory of Jim Gilchrist who sadly passed away on Wednesday 23rd September 2020 aged 68 years.
Jim was the life and soul of any occasion, with a wicked sense of humour and was loved by all who met him. He had a heart full of love and kindness, which burst with pride for his family.
He is missed desperately by his 6 children Joanne, Claire, Peter, Sean, Heather and Ellen and 6 grandchildren Robyn, Ben, Kirsty, Grace, Tobi and Tilly. His loss is also felt by his brothers Ian and Robert and their families, and all his friends including those he had created a life with in Hurghada, Egypt.
Jim had developed a love of travel and culture and in 2018 achieved his dream of retiring full time to live in Hurghada, from where he took trips around Egypt and Asia, accompanied by close friends. He particularly enjoyed exploring temples, learning about the local culture and sharing his experiences by reciting stories with his family. Jim became ill in Spring this year and returned to the UK into the care of his family. Following a short but very brave battle with a rare form of lung cancer, Jim passed away peacefully at home with his children by his side.
Family flowers only are requested for the funeral. It is the support of the British Red Cross and Hayward House Palliative Care Hospice that Jim's children would like to acknowledge at this time. Without their help and support it would not have been possible to care for Jim at home and give him his wish to be surrounded by his family at his end of life. For anyone who would have liked to send a floral tribute, we would be most grateful for your kind consideration to the alternative of pledging a gift to the nominated charities.
Due to current Government Regulations, attendance at Jim's funeral is by invitation only. The service will be webcast live, enabling all Jim's friends and wider family to join in the celebration of his life. Details of the webcast link will be shared in due course.
