Rosemary and I first met Ray at the Barge Club on Canvey which he ran for many years. He always started every dance with his club members and it wasn't long before many more joined in. It was very sad when the Club closed, but then we renewed our friendship with him and Joy at Rawhide, Tilbury, where he often stood in as M/C. Always friendly, smiling and welcoming.
He will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with Joy and all his family.

I also met Ray and Joy through their shop JJ Twirlers, at many competitions. Whenever I visited the shop Ray always made time to make me feel special as not only a customer but a valued friend. He always had some sage advice and a few jokes on hand that made each visit unique and memorable. He helped out (probably more than he should’ve) to give me the best quality at a reasonable price.
I fondly remember him chatting about his passion for line dancing, and he always spoke with love and devotion about his lovely wife Joy.
Ray was a one of a kind character that once met was never forgotten! I may not have known him as well as some but I feel truly blessed that this amazing man had such a positive impact on my life.
Hugs, thoughts and prayers to all of Rays family, especially Joy, God bless you all at this difficult time xxxx

What can I say about grandad he was always smiling especially when he had a whiskey in hand 😜🥃 he was the go to when you needed anything and the straight talker when you needed a kick up the bum. He was an amazing genuine man who will be truly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. This is the most hardest goodbye we have had to do in a long time. I no we couldn't see you for a few months but we always had our chats on the phone or normally it would be me phoning and you being santa to sort the kids out lol. Hopefully you are still dancing up there. Love you grandad and always will xxx

What can i say about my grandad, well for starters he's a Denham so board game cheating come second nature, Christmas time always resulted in alot of stolen monopoly money, he always used to tell rude jokes that were so terrible they were funny (not that my grandma ever approved), he was a very proud and strong man, and highly missed by alot of people, they say cherish the time you have left and its so true you never know how much time you have and when the time gets taken part of your heart leaves with it, not a day will go by where I won't think of grandad, he will always be in my heart and memories and I will always love him, I guess Thursday is the last chance for a goodbye, see you soon grandad, take care of everyone up there with you, love you millions xxx
