In loving memory of Jane Barnard who sadly passed away on 24th September 2020, aged 73 years.
Mum ,Granny Jane,Sister ,Aunty Jane , Janey ,GJ ,JaBa, friend ,colleague..' the mad penguin wummin or 'the wee gift shop wummin'.... However you knew her ,she will be missed.
After a short, in real terms, and not so sweet dance with lung cancer, Jane passed away peacefully at the Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow. I'd love to say she was surrounded by her loved ones, but because of current restrictions, she had one visitor, her eldest granddaughter, Julianna, who was with her when she passed.
Despite being given a terminal prognosis on diagnoses, Jane continued to live her life as fully as she could, until thwarted by a random broken arm, and Covid 19. Until 7 weeks ago, she was still nipping out to charity shops , pub lunches and random shopping trips. The hunt for a perfect chocolate lime or erroneous penguin was real!
She had yet to retire from her job and leaves behind many treasured colleagues as well as an office full of penguins.
She also leaves behind her three children, two grandchildren, a son in law and her grandchildren's partners as well as a sister, a brother , two nieces and a nephew and an assortment of 'grand' relatives.
She had small but close group of real friends, some of whom she has known most of her life, a long standing workmate who became a good friend, Marie and her closest friend Sadie, with whom she went on 'adventures' regularly ...when not inconvenienced by work.
Jane's funeral will take place on Friday 2nd of October at 3.45 at Daldowie Crematorium. She will be leaving her home at approximately 3.00. Unfortunately numbers are limited because of the current restrictions but a link will be available to join by webcast.
Jane didn't leave many instructions for her last hurrah, but she did ask that people don't wear black if possible. Penguins optional. A celebration will be arranged once some normality has been restored to the world.
As per Jane’s wishes, donations to the linked charities would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
