In loving memory of Michael Frederick Grimbley who sadly passed away on 4th September 2020.

Michael, our Dad, was born on 7th October 1944 to Gladys Turpin and George Grimbley, Dad had one brother Tony who was 2 years older than him.

Dad grew up in Bulwell on Merchant Street and he attended Bulwell St. Marys C of E primary school following onto Highbury secondary school for Boys. After Dad’s education Dad worked in various environments inc:

Percy Andrews finishing company,
A local bakery
Sankey’s Bulwell
Jones & Co Basford
Breconshire Dye works
Nottingham Dyers
Jones & Co again after retiring!

Dad was a grafter and worked hard and long hours. His commitment to provide for the family was a priority for him.

Dad’s first marriage was to Valerie Gee. They met in 1964 and soon after they married at St Leodegarius C of E church In Basford. They had three children, Paul, born in 1965, Michelle, born in 1966 and Suzanne, born in 1972.

Dad’s second marriage was to Lorrain Bannister. Dad met Lorraine during the mid-70s and they went on to marry In 1977 at St. Marks church in Bulwell.
They had two children, Sandra, born in 1978 and Carol, born in 1986

Dads family homes were on Merchant Street in Bulwell, Bannerman Road on Highbury Vale and
Lansdowne road in Basford, where dad would remain.

Dad enjoyed many family holidays into the east coast including, Sutton on sea and Mablethorpe, he loved the East coast so much he purchased a chalet in Mablethorpe where he and the family could relax at weekends and holidays.
Later Dad ventured out to European holiday destinations. Dad holidayed in, Italy, Tenerife, Spain and Portugal. Dad’s favourite destination became Cyprus. Dad’s first visit was in 2002 to Paul And Deb’s wedding. He was then hooked. Most holidays were then spent in Cyprus. Dad’s favourite place being Paphos in Cyprus, which he visited many times and his dream was to purchase a second home there.

Dad loved his sports and was an active Badminton player playing for many years, He also enjoyed a game of snooker at the local snooker clubs. Dad loved to follow snooker, rugby, cricket and Formula 1.
Dads first love was always his family which over the years had grown, along with his five children he also had grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family is still growing with grandchildren and great grandchildren due very soon.

Dad’s second love was always his garden he was very green fingered. He loved to be in his garden. He grew his own vegetables from tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, chillies in his greenhouses to Brussels, runner beans, lettuce, potatoes and so much more in the soil. There was always a wonderful array of flowers growing from, sweet Williams, pansies, roses, tulips, marigolds the list goes on. If the garden work was done, then it was Mr DIY! He was always busy fixing, replacing, or building something. His many out buildings, flower beds, summer houses, flower frames and greenhouses, all hand built.

Dad also loved his music and would dance and sing for hours listening to many genres from Rock and roll, to classical the louder the music the better.

Dad loved to socialise. Dad loved going out with friends and family when he could. Pubs, clubs, social clubs, and parties. Dad knew how to enjoy himself and how to make sure all had a good time.

Dad was also a great lover of animals, he had aviaries at each home full of budgies, cockatiels, and finches, He had many dogs, to which he adored. He also loved his fishponds, which we had the biggest pond going full of Koi and goldfish.

Dad’s life was always filled with family, friends, music, the garden and socialising. Dad never one to rest and was always on the go, he loved a good knees up. He would always look forward to going out, entertaining, special occasions, like Bonfire Night and Christmas because he would always be surrounded by all his family & friends who love him.

Love you Dad.

Paul, Michelle, Suzanne, Sandra, Carol.

Love you Michael.

Lorraine.

Dad..no words can express how much I miss you and how heartbroken I am that you’ve gone. A part of me went with you when you left.
I will cherish all the memories I have of you, like jumping the waves in mablethorp and dancing on your feet when I was little. Having the tv on full blast watching the jazz singer and singing your heart out to his songs, even to how quiet the house had to be when watching snooker it’s like we were in there with them in deep concentration watching it lol. Teaching me how to ride a bike, even me having my first fight...you told me,get back out there and stand your ground&thats just what I did. You taught me how to be strong&fearless,to hold my head high and always stick up for myself.
To having my friends round and us singing and dancing in the living room, you’d join in and loved us all being there. I will even miss the last night of the proms lol as much as it drove me mad with the songs and how loud you had it you loved it, I have so many fond memories dad, that I will keep very close to my heart. I will remember your lovely smile, your distinctive laugh and how blissfully happy you we’re leading up to getting ill. You didn’t complain, you never moaned, strong until the end. You were a fighter. I still can’t believe we have to say goodbye tomorrow But we will give you the most beautiful send off a day fit for a king, our hero. Rest In Perfect Paradise Daddy. Love you always and forever. Carol xxx
