In loving memory of Susan Elizabeth Toon who sadly passed away on 25th August 2020.
Born in Peterborough on 24th September 1942 to David and Beryl Johnson, she spent three years in Malta when her Dad was stationed there, returning to Draycott in 1952/3.
After attending Spondon Park Grammar School, she completed her teacher training at Sheffield University followed by a PGCE at Nottingham University. Despite specialising in French, she went on to teach Primary, first at Sawley, then for the rest of her career at Springfield Primary in Spondon.
In 1973 she married Norman Toon, and gave birth to their only child, Helen, in 1979.
Her early hobbies included travel, reenactment with The Sealed Knot, brass rubbing and watching sports, especially cricket.
In later years her passion remained for worldwide travel, most recently visiting New Zealand, South Africa, Peru, Australia and The Galapagos. Her other hobbies were gardening and socialising, always preferring the company of others.
Plagued by health problems from her 20s onwards, she retired early in 1990 and kept her chiropractor busy ever since. She was recently diagnosed with MS (hence the charity choice) and the government response to Covid had a massive negative impact on her mental and physical health.
She leaves her daughter Helen, son in law Phil, and two grandsons, Alex and Oliver, who will miss her greatly.
