In loving memory of Anthony John Beddow who sadly passed away on 21st August 2020 aged 89 years.
Tony will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Active throughout the course of his life in numerous service groups (Navy), Church activities, Voluntary Organizations and in any way that he was able to help out with kindness and willingness to be involved in many hundreds of people's lives, meant that the memory and legacy that he left, will live on with those he came into contact with. Whether it was a relatively fleeting contact or one established over a long period of time, many will remember him for his selflessness, thoughtfulness (and in case of group activities!), organizational skills. Ably supported in almost all of these by his loving wife Karenza, he was actively able to be involved himself, in a more supporting capacity, with her 'Evergreens' choir this last 16 years.
Floral tributes may be sent c/o John Weir Funeral Directors, 130-132 High Street, Rainham, Kent ME8 8AR
by 10: 00 am on Thursday 10th September. Tel: 01634 373111.

Dear Karenza
Our friendship spans some 50+ years, since my late husband John and Tony met when they joined the Royal Navy. On several occasions down the years Tony has 'popped down' to see us while out on his bike. Always cheerful and positive in his approach to life he will be sadly missed.

Remembering Tony, a lovely man, John and I had a long and happy friendship with him and Karenza. One particularly favourite memory is of the time that we all went to Oberammagau together. We met at Gillingham Baptist Church, where our children were in the Boys Brigade together, and our sons remain good friends to this day. Tony was much loved and will be much missed.

Tony was a top fella. When we were kids (45 years ago) he gave up his time and supported the 11-14 years group (not an easy age group either as we were mischievous little fellas). He also had me round for meals many times. He had this great look he could do where he would smile at you whilst also pulling a "I know you're up to no good" face. It was very effective. Tony was a kind, thoughtful and caring man and despite his sometimes serious exterior he was a deeply sensitive person with a lovely cheeky sense of humour. Big love to all the family and respect and admiration for the amazing way you have supported and cared so brilliantly over the past few years. Julian. X

  • Dear John - it is with much sadness we received your message this afternoon concerning Tony. The above picture says it all for us exemplifying the great love that your mum and dad had for each other and for those who have been lucky enough to have been regarded as friends. I can hardly remember ever seeing them apart, so it’s hard to imagine the great loss your mother is feeling. And the loss will be the same for you and Carl. Heather, of course, first met your lovely dad when they taught together at Woodlands School. From that moment he took great interest in us as a young family facing the challenges of life in the 70s. For me I will always remember our bouts of banter and corny humour-naval and police humour mixed well! Tony was a sensitive and most kindly gentleman- a gentle man in the truest sense. A man of true faith which he displayed in his love and care for people and especially in the kind deeds he did for folk in ways large and small and only for the reward of knowing that, in his way, he was making the world a slightly better place. May he rest in peace. With love, Derek and Heather.

Dear Karenza.
I am so sorry to hear the sad passing of Tony. I knew Tony but for a short 8 years, and throughout that time I had the pleasure of sharing many memories with him in the Evergreens Choir and the Singalong at the Sunlight Centre. He was a Kind True Gentleman and always a caring person to others. I will miss his smile banter and his humour. Tony was a Friend and it was a Pleasure and a Honour to have known him. Please extend my deepest sorrow to your Family. God Bless.. David Wilkins
