Many great memories of Henry, stretching back to those Access days of the early seventies.

Although Henry and I went to the same parties in our late teens - and subsequently discovered we dated the same girls! - we really became close friends in the last 20 years. A shared love of fishing and football was a good start and the conversation and laughs flowed easily with or without a pint or two (especially important when sitting in a boat NOT catching any fish). So many happy memories and so sad there will be no more. Going to miss you, mate.

Henry was a lovely man. We went on lots of walking holidays with him to the Yorkshire Dales, where he would regularly go off to do some fly fishing and bring back fresh trout for our tea. I remember once both of us taking on map reading duties and then getting hopelessly lost when we discovered that two pages were missing from our walk book! Happy memories.

Henry has been a friend and work colleague since 1972 when we met at Access in Southend-on-sea. Like all true friends, Hen was there for me in the tough times and the good ones, sharing many good times together, particularly when fishing, both in Eire and the UK. He was my Best Man when I married Cynthia in September 2000 and in typical Henry manner refused to make a speech.
Henry was rude, insulting, abrasive, funny, lovable and one of the best people I have ever known. I will miss his insults to the day I die.

I like so many others worked for JCCC (Access) with Henry. If we didn’t know it then we know that we loved working there and met so many lovely people , Henry being one of them. I remember he lived (I think) in Westminster drive and I think his wife played the piano. Why do I remember these details after so many years but can’t remember what day it is?! We have lived away from the area for 20 years but are back now as we appreciate our family are everything, as I’m sure Sarah Gadd knows . I will be at the proposed drink to remember Henry

I was so sorry to hear the news about Henry. I was at Westcliff High School with Henry and met my wife Shirley at Henry's 20th birthday party on 11 July 1970, at his parent's house (they weren't there of course!), and she was there because Henry's friend Julian had been chaperoning Shirley as she was the Wickford Carnival Queen at the time. Shirley and I got on very well. We went on to be married at St Mary's Prittlewell in 1973, Henry being a guest at our wedding. We left Southend in 1974 and moved to the Huntingdon area where our children Anna and Rob were born, and we have remained here ever since, but have had many regular trips back to Southend as it is our second home with so many of our respective families still living there. We send our sincere condolences to all of Henry's family and friends and will be thinking of you on 8th September.
Tim Johnson
