In loving memory of Ida Russell who sadly passed away on 12th August 2020
Ida was born in 1930 in the house where she lived until her death.
She attended Marsh Hill Infant & Juniors, Erdington Grammar School for Girls & Birmingham University where she obtained a Certificate in Education.
Her teaching career spanned 34 years from Dulwich Road Infants, to Hastings Road & Alma Street and finally to Sladefield Road where she was Deputy Head for many years.
She became a Guide and Sea Ranger whilst still at school and then became a leader, in a career which lasted from 1948 to 1995 and after that as a member of the Trefoil Guild.
Her other love was Ice Skating, passing her first test in 1952, she enjoyed success as an Ice Dancer and later became a judge, travelling the country helping and encouraging young skaters.
During retirement as well as Guiding & Skating she enjoyed craft work and in particular painting. Taking many HF painting holidays and making numerous friends along the way.
As her health and mobility deteriorated Ida joined several lunch clubs and enjoyed outings to Pantomimes, Cadbury World and the shops, she continued to attend church in Erdington swapping the bus, trains and her bike for Ring n Ride or Taxis to get her around.
Ida will be remembered not only for her kindness, patience, encouragement and enthusiasm but for her fun loving attitude, her love of bright colours, fairies, teddy bears, wooley hats and sequined berets
Rest in Peace X
