In loving memory of Gillian Winfield-McCracken who sadly passed away on 19th July 2020.
Gill was Hucknall born and bred. She entered the world on Wood Lane just outside the centre; always living and working close to the former pit town.
After leaving school Gill worked for the National Coal Board in the Area office typing pool at Bestwood before getting married and having her two sons.
While her two sons were growing up she worked at Leen Mills primary school as a dinner lady where she kept a close eye on them both!
For the majority of her working life Gill was secretary and front of house receptionist for the Social Services Team based originally upstairs at the 'new' health centre on Curtis Street in Hucknall. Later moving with the team when it was reallocated to Sutton-in-Ashfield. Away from her day job, Gill also worked as a silver service waitress at the Commodore Banqueting suite in Nottingham, often meeting the great and good of Nottingham and beyond.
After retiring early from full-time employment due to poor health, Gill became a voluntary driver taking patients to medical appointments plus helping the less mobile with their shopping trips. Continuing bouts of her own ill health resulted in Gill requiring more support for her mobility. David became Gill’s nominated driver in mid 2004 and, after spending large amounts of time in each other’s company; they became 'an item', marrying in early 2007.
Always laughing and enjoying their time together, Gill and David were keen to give their time to various volunteer roles including Parish Councillors and helping out in the emporium at the Great Central Railway in Loughborough.
A much loved grandmother, Gill always made Olivia and Thomas smile on their visits. Trips to nana’s house were always fun: board games or dressing up, anything to fire their imagination.
Gill past away peacefully and pain free after a short battle with pancreatic cancer and will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Rather than send cards or flower could we please ask that you make a small donation to the Nottinghamshire Hospice: the night carers who patiently sat with Mum so that David could catch a few hours sleep. See link above and please use gift aid where appropriate. Thank you in advance.
