In loving memory of Aubrey Thomas Heyer who died peacefully on 17th July 2020, aged 93.
Loving husband of the late Anne, Father of Elizabeth, Jane, Gillian and Diana, and Grandfather of Justine, Ben, Alex, Nicki and Emma.
Aubrey enjoyed a long, happy and well-lived life. Sociable to the last, he loved gathering with family and friends, and we all enjoyed his great sense of humour and fabulous stories and jokes. He will be dearly missed by his family, as well as by the many friends he made over the years.
Family flowers only.
If you would like to make a donation in Aubrey's memory, we have chosen "Age UK Surrey". The Caterham Office of this charity provided Aubrey with fantastic support through their Help at Home Scheme, enabling him to maintain his independence in his flat.
We would love you to share a photo, story or memory of Aubrey on this page or light a candle.

I had the great pleasure (much to Anne’s surprise “the poor girl”) of being Aubrey’s Secretary/PA for 8 years until the Southern Sales Office of Olives closed. He was a complete gentleman and treated me with total respect throughout our time working together.

Martin and I talk about him often and chuckle at some of the things he said in the past. One of our favourites was the occasion of the firms’s Christmas lunch and Aubrey ordered a steak which was not to his liking and when pointing this out to the waiter who dared to argue, Aubrey succinctly replied “ man my knife will not gravitate through it and indeed it’s only purpose would be to resole my shoe” Needkess to say the waiter scurried off and returned with a suitable replacement!!

He will be greatly missed - the world will be a poorer place without him in it.

Thank you Aubrey for being a wonderful friend to Mum, Gillian Emmerton.
She talks about the lovely meals out you shared together and the wonderful times she and Dad (Douglas) had together. She is so sorry she was unable to attend your funeral but she was in her thoughts. xx

Tidying. The garden was always spotless. When playing snooker as a pair, we were never beaten!

Jenny and I have many fond memories of time spent with Aubrey and Anne, ranging from socialising in Surrey to weekends or weeks away that included Nethy Bridge in Scotland, Chagford in Devon, Ross-on Wye and Forest of Dean, Scilly Isles, Peak District and Dovedale.

As you can imagine from all this socialising, some funny stories emerge. One event that comes to mind was when Aubrey and Anne arrived at the Isaac Newton Hotel in Derbyshire. Aubrey was driving his Ford Explorer 4x4 and following a lady driver round the somewhat compact car park, he became increasingly frustrated at her driving skills (or as he saw it, lack of). In so doing, Aubrey completely misjudged the low wall along the edge of the car park, which had a five foot drop the other side and with a lot of graunching noise, the Explorer ended up perched on top of the wall with both front wheels suspended in mid-air. Thinking quickly, a couple of our party went to the local garage and persuaded the garage proprietor to bring his recovery vehicle to the hotel where we used the ramp at the back to lift the car back on to all four wheels. All’s well that ends well and we had a lovely walking break around Dovedale .

Whilst in Devon, we went horse riding on Dartmoor and Aubrey’s horse was named Thatcher. At this time Margaret Thatcher was still the PM, for whom Aubrey had little respect. With any lack of performance, this poor horse suffered because of its name!!

Latterly we all happily reminisced over a pint or dinner whilst at the same time putting the world to right until it came to an abrupt stop with the current pandemic.
