Paul and I worked in the same office but for some reason, never together. It was through the office quiz team that we eventually got to know each other. As keen quizzers, we met many times over the years and I was always impressed by Paul’s depth of knowledge on a wide range of subjects. Living locally, my wife Catherine and I used to bump into Paul regularly. He was always keen for a chat and a catch up and, of course, happy to talk about his other team interest, Huddersfield Town. Paul was one of life’s lovely people - polite, kind and always keen to know how our daughter was doing in London. We were both shocked to hear the news of his death. It was a pleasure to have known him and he will be sadly missed. Our condolences to Stephen.

Many years ago my husband and I owned a small weekend cottage in the Forest of Dean. On Sundays we used to go for lunch at the Dean Heritage Centre, about as far off the beaten track as you can get. So imagine our surprise on one Sunday when Paul Brearley turned up there!

Paul always seemed one of the most alive people I ever met. Someone who clearly enjoyed life and valued every minute. My condolences to Stephen and his other relatives.

Dear Paul - we shall miss you a lot. You were kind, friendly and cheerful, even after supporting Huddersfield Town for many decades! Going to quizzes and to football matches will never be the same without you. I am sure that Stephen and your other close relatives are missing you even more.
Love
Bob and Margaret
