Derek Frank Catling (1 Jan 1936 - 8 Jul 2020)

In loving memory of Derek Frank Catling who sadly passed away on 8th July 2020.

Derek was born in Beccles on 1 January 1936 and grew up there with his parents, Frank and Connie Catling and his elder brother, Brian.

He had a lifelong passion for football and cricket and in his teens played football for Barsham United.

When he left school he joined his father in the family business, a butchers shop in The Walk, Beccles. He had a 2 year break from working in the shop whilst completing his National Service. Towards the end of this period he met Beryl George at the Floral Hall in Gorleston, they married in 1960.

Derek and Beryl had 2 children, Lynn in 1961 and Andy in 1966.

After selling the butchers shop Derek bought a General Store in Felixstowe. Through his working life he also worked at the House of Holland, first in Lowestoft and then, as the manager in Norwich. And before retirement he once again ran his own business along with Beryl, a Fancy Dress hire shop near to their home.

Derek was very proud of his family which grew steadily with 4 Grandchildren - Gemma, Charlotte, Anna and Charlie and 3 Great Grandchildren - Caleb, Jonah and Talia.
