In loving memory of Robert Thomson who sadly passed away on 9th July 2020. Robert was better know to all his family and friends as Bert and to his work colleagues as Bobby. He was born on 22/11/34 to Robert and Catherine (known as Cathie or Katie ) Thomson in Oatlands. . He was the youngest of 3 boys Kenny, who is 91 yrs old and Ian Now deceased. He went to Woolsely St primary and Strathbungo secondary schools. He did his apprenticeship as an engineer in Parkhead Forge and was promoted to Senior Foreman he worked there for 34 yrs till it closed down.He then worked in the Alcan factory for 11yrs till he retired. He was a hard worker and hardly had any days off. He met his wife Jeanette at Paisley ice skating and they married in 1956. They had 2 daughters Katrina then Janet. Shortly after he married he did his national service in Cyprus but was invalided out with a finger injury caused by a gun going off by accident. In later years he was also a member of The Masonic Lodge and the Clyde Football club in Rutherglen where he socialised with Jeanette on a Saturday night with regular friends. He was also a member of Rutherglen bowling club where he played. He also liked to play golf but he was just an occasional golfer. He also had a wee passion for the racehorses and would study the form and place regular wee bets where he occasionally had a good win. In his later years Bert developed a condition that compromised his mobility and walking became difficult without the aid of a walker. He also found holding things difficult and this frustrated him as he was a very independent man. Bert spent a lot of time at various hospital appointments which used to annoy him but he could be funny at times too. As his general health weakened Bert was determined to stay at home and was helped by this by the input of Cordia carers who gave him great care and attention. The district nurses were also involved with Bert and helped in his care at home. Bert had 3 grandsons Stuart Allan and Greg and a grand daughter Carys and he was very proud of all their achievements. Bert also had 6 great grandchildren and a great great grandson who he never met but saw pictures of. Bert stayed at home until the day before he passed away peacefully in hospital.
