In loving memory of Peter John Witherden who sadly passed away at home on 4th June 2020, aged 90 years.
Eulogy for Peter John Witherden
Peter John Witherden born 1929 second Son of Alice and Charles Witherden younger brother of Robert born 1927
He went to the village school but due to the war never attended a senior school.
He left school and went to work on Hinges Farm
At 17 his mum died which spurred him onto join the royal air force where he spent five and half years leaving as a Corporal
Soon after leaving the Royal air Force he met Eileen who he married in 1954 and started married life at the Homestead Ham Green working for Mr Holloway and they went onto have lan first born and moved away to a farm Oldbury near Sevenoaks but this didn't work out they moved back to the Street Upchurch, they then moved to a tied cottage Oast House Farm Newington running the farm during the time here they went onto have two further children Gloria and Pauline and then his Dad died and left him the family home Crown Cottage, Ham Green where he farmed here as well as the one at Newington, then later on he worked on Stevens Farm
His three children -lan, Gloria and Pauline who went onto to have 2 children each -Susannah, Stephanie, Joanne, Jonathan, Peter and Laura then 3 Great Grandsons Channing, Henley and Oliver
Around 1993 Dad gave up farming they moved to Chaffes Lane where he started a job working for Eden Park Garden Centre Near Bredgar around 1998 they moved again which was to be his last move to Tufton Road Rainham where he spent his retirement enjoying his garden, attended Upchurch Darby and Joan club until it closed recently, he followed Gillingham football club and liked
Listening on a Saturday morning to Radio Kent top ten programme and loved to have his family around him.
In his last year he fractured his right femur in August his Grand Daughter was due to get married
On 31StAugust so he could attend her wedding he delayed his operation until after her wedding
going in a wheelchair -his mobility declined with also being diagnosed with COPD his health sadly deteriorated and with covid his world became very small he became very emotional having no
visitors this affected him greatly
Peter will be so greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
