In loving memory of Roger Smeeton who sadly passed away on 14th June 2020 in Nottingham.
Roger was born in Nottingham on 25th April 1945 and attended the William Crane School where he met life long friends and began his adventures.
Roger attended Sea Scouts as a child, was a keen fisherman and developed a life long passion for motorcycles from the age of 16. He met his wife Veronica in 1964 and was a devoted father to two children. After learning the art of Monumental Stonemasonry, Roger started his own family business where he worked alongside his son Roger for 34 years and who continues to work for the business today. His daughter Maxine and wife Veronica also worked within the family business in the early years.
Over the years Roger loved to spend time on his boat that was moored at Woodbridge in Suffolk and had fond memories with family in Farndon. He was a keen fisherman and often went fishing with his son and grandson Haydn.
Roger was a proud Grandfather to Alicia who will always treasure the memories of the time we spent together and the wisdom and strength he gave me.
Roger also became a Great Grandfather over recent years.
Roger lived life to the full, loved his family, close friends and his 1966 Triumph Bonneville.

Unfortunately due to the current situation with COVID:19 only immediate family will be able to attend the funeral. We will send details for the location of Rogers memorial in the future to those who wish to pay their respects. Thank you for your understanding.

Our deepest condolences to the Smeeton Family.
I have very fond memories of sitting in his Long Eaton Workshop, drinking tea talking about classic motorbikes and putting the world to rights; fond memories of a gent.
Thanks Rog.

To Rog,
Having been taught how to cut letters at Smiths by the great Master Brown Loaf, i left there and went to work for Rog at Canning Circus. He said he would teach me everything he knew about the trade, he said it would only take 5 minutes.
He also taught me all about excuses for being late for work. He was coming up Ilson road on the bus, on time of course, when right in front of the bus a Shippo's dray 'oss dropped dead right in front of him, causing major delays and stopping him from getting to work on time.
The other thing he taught me was a lesson in guilt. He sent me to get half a ton of building sand from the builders merchant, i said how will i know when i've got half a ton? Easy he said, keep shovelling it in until you think you are roughly there, then keep shovelling until you start to feel guilty, stop for a fag, then add 20 more shovel fulls and that comes to a 'Smeeton Half Ton'

Very fond memories

Wow so very sad, where do I start Rog was a friend of 54 years, he was the most honest and straightforward talking guy I have ever known. Sometimes we would disagree but I hold him in great respect a truly lovely man. They don't make them like Rog anymore. He will be greatly missed by me, and my sincere condolences to all the family. R.I.P. mate, you was one of the best.

To my lovely Father in Law Rog
I met all the family not knowing what I'd find
You soon made me laugh
And eased my mind
You welcomed me with open arms
That I won't forget
I always had a laugh with you from the moment that we met
You were a great and loving father in law who was the best
Ride high in the sky until we meet again
Your favourite daughter in law
