Elizabeth Mary (Betty) Joyce (16 Sep 1930 - 31 May 2020)

Location
Private

In thanksgiving for the life of Elizabeth Mary Joyce (Betty) who fell asleep peacefully on the morning of 31st May in her chair and woke up in heaven reunited with husband Alan.
Loving Mum of Michael, Sandra, Philip and Timothy. Dear Mum-in-law of Cindy, Geoff, Fiona, and Julia. Loving Grandma/Nan, and Great grandma/great Nan. Much loved and respected friend to many in her community and beyond.

Many Hogsthorpe people lined the streets on 22nd June to wave goodbye to Betty as her family walked behind the hearse. There was a mounted 'guard' at St Mary's Church where the people clapped to honour a dear lady who had been so greatly loved and valued by her community. The cortege went on (via Bilsby where LineDancing friends also clapped and waved at the roadside) to Alford Crematorium where a funeral service was led by eldest son Mike with just Betty's children and partners present. Daughter Sandie and son Tim also gave tribute. Betty's Grandchildren plus several GreatGrandchildren and friends were able to watch through a live link online.

Flowers were placed on Alan's grave at Hogsthorpe churchyard where Betty's ashes will be later interred.

A thanksgiving service for Betty's life will take place at St Mary's Church Parish Church, Hogsthorpe as soon as it is possible for folk to gather.

Donations are welcome to Betty's favourite charities, the Salvation Army and/or The Red cross. Donations may be made via the following Just Giving pages:

I’m glad we finally got to meet Aunty Betty. I enjoyed trying to catch up with you by phone; you were a lovely lovely lady & I will miss you.

Grandma, you will be so very missed.

I cherish lots of fond memories... of courting cake, recycling everything into arts and crafts, rock buns, crocheting, spontaneously sewing me a dress, the joy you took in Pip Joyce, your cold lunches of stuffed chine, and letting us get away with crisp sandwiches.

I’ll miss your generosity, your warm welcome, knitwear, and, maybe most of all, no-nonsense, straight talking honesty.

  • Great picture. I have fond but limited memories of going into the shop. Nan on several occasions would give us small Nutella pots with plastic spoon inside. It's the small things like that when I would drive past the shop I would remember fondly x

  • This is how I want to remember Mum and Dad. If a picture speaks a thousand words it's this one...
