Jerry was a great man, a wonderful leader and a dear friend to me. We had a relationship forged in peace and cemented in war and we were an unbeatable team together, nothing was too difficult.

I was always SEngO and he was always JJ and everyone knew who we were talking about and the love and respect we had for each other.

My memories of Jerry go back to Number 48 course Basic Flying Training at RAF Leeming. He was then already showing the qualities that led to his distinguished military career. He was a good man, one of the best, and I am proud to have know him. My condolences to his family who have lost a shinning example of a man who exuded courage, bravery and leadership.

We became firm friends when we travelled together each day for a year from Marlow to attend the Advanced Staff Course at Bracknell in 1986. Jerry was a lovely man, and it was my privilege to have been able to call him a friend. We will miss him terribly. RIP Jerry.
