My early memories of my dad are mainly around holidays, Christmas and waiting to pick him up from work, watching the rabbits.
These are the key items, I remember clearly, from my earlier years:
Walking in the Peak District with him and his friends;
Our first computer and being super competitive with each other on the games;
Playing sports, badminton and later swingball in the garden;
Doing the bridge to bridge swim as family;
Teaching me to wire and solder;
Camping around the UK;
Dam building in Sandilands, Hunstanton, Woolacombe and so on;
Gardening;
Navigation Boating;
General Playing in the sea.
I really thank you Dad for my love of Woolacombe, Cornwall, Sandilands, Dorset and many many other places, but mainly the Peak District where I now live. We have no need to travel the world in comfort. You taught me to enjoy the UK and this is more than enough for us all. My family is so lucky to now live and own a piece of this, a place you adored, a stone's throw from Carsington Water, where we spent your 40th birthday together with your new toy, a pair of binoculars.
Everything you have taught me has enabled me to become a rounded person that is capable of removing anything that blocks my way and achieve success, not for financial gain, but because it is the right thing to do by people.
Yes, we have had our ups and downs over the years, but that is because we are incredibly similar. I will do my best to iron out some of those bad traits and ensure the positive ones are built on and passed to your only grandson Oliver, who will hopefully carry on the Mason name. Unfortunately, your first Grandson did not manage to make it past 6 weeks and 6 days. Ethan David Mason, was named after you and you both will always be in our hearts. In the words of Oliver “You can now look after Ethan, until we are all together again.”
Lots of love Andrew, Sam and Oliver
