Hello Donna, I just read about your dad. Gutted doesn't even come close, all the great memories that I have growing up, involved you and your family and your dad n mum were at the heart of all that. Your dad was one of the nicest men I've ever met. Years ago, I came home from a night out, after drinks with friends, decided to have a small gathering type of thing. Walking home, we started to play football in the street, much like we did when we were kids. I was shouting about being Chris Sutton, some others were arguing loudly about who they'd be. Anyway people complained, people moaned, police turned up but by then it was hours later and all over. I knew I'd messed up. So I went round the neighbours to apologize. Your Dad came to the door, I explained that I was sorry, asking did he hear us and of course he said he did... He said not to worry, and that the only thing I should say sorry for was ... for not inviting him out to play as well. To make sure next time I ring the bell and he'll come out for a game! It's one of the fondest memories I have of living in that street, and of him. Truly heartbroken for you all, so please know that I am thinking about you all and I'm so sorry for your loss. Chris x

So very sorry to learn of your loss. I have such great memories of Charlie, Irene & family sharing Christmases and New Year parties with us that seemed to last until nearly breakfast the following day! Charlie was always the life and soul of these gatherings. Thinking of you all at this time.

Uncle Charlie - a true inspiration.
When I think of Uncle Charlie I am filled with joy. He was a great role model and true inspiration to many. I think he had most things spot on when it came to family. He managed to strike the perfect balance of helping without getting too involved. Together Charlie and Irene have nurtured a wonderful group of children who we are lucky enough to call friends. It was great to hear in today's service that when asked about his hobbies, he replied that his family was his hobby. I can truly relate to that and can say he has inspired me in so many ways. I thank him and the rest for our Scotland family for always making us so welcome on our many visits. We had some great times with Charlie and was fortunate to hear some great stories from his life and make new memories with him. One occasion I will always remember is from the night before our wedding when Charlie kept control of the dining table singers by coining the phrase 'one man, one song' and I will never forget it and have used that quote myself more than once. I even got a song from the great man himself. I'm sure as many others would agree, our life is so much the better for knowing Uncle Charlie. May he rest well in the knowledge that he left a great legacy. Love you Uncle Charlie xx❤️
