In loving memory of Peggy Bedford who sadly passed away on 24th April 2020
Born 5th March 1931
Parents were Thomas and Mary Sculthorpe
Born in Gedney and went to school there
Worked on the land at Ewerby Waithe
Peggy worked at Sarderons where she met John through his sister Mary
Peggy married John on the 8th March 1952 at Howell church and they were married for 68 years
Peggy and John set up home at Hanthorpe with Peggy’s daughter Elizabeth.
Peggy and John went on to have 8 children together; Derek, Linda, Susan, Michael, Ian, Christine, Paula and Michelle.
They moved to Barff farm Metheringham to work for W Mair & Sons where Peggy worked on the land, this is where Peggy lost her wedding ring while packing potatoes.
They moved to FenHead Farm on Metheringham Fen, then to the village of Metheringham and then Peggy lived at the Haven nursing home for the last five years of her life.
Peggy has got 4 daughters-in-law and 6 sons-in-law, 11 grandchildren. 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Peggy enjoyed bingo on Saturday and Tuesday and coffee mornings on a Monday.
Peggy enjoyed knitting and was a Chelsea football club fan.
Peggy enjoyed going on holiday, particularly to Skegness for two weeks, playing on the 2p slot machines, sitting on the beach watching the donkeys and a 99p Mr Whippy.
On a Saturday dinner time tradition was to have sausages from Andrews Butchers and boiled potatoes, Peggy would sing the 3 little sausages song and the hot crossed buns song at Easter to the grandchildren
Peggy always enjoyed knitting, while in the nursing home Peggy decided she was going to unpick a knitted cardigan and roll into balls as she didn’t like the cardigan.
She will be sadly missed by her husband John, family and friends.
The girls at the Haven nursing home will miss her, they say she was a happy character but a bigger character when she was in a mood with the girls as she would cross her arms and not talk to them, this would make them giggle
Although John and Peggy had their ups and downs, they dearly love each other, they would always have a kiss at night and have a kiss when John would leave the nursing home.
Please share any pictures of Peggy and messages of condolence here for close family and friends to see.
