Sylvia Caddick (16 Oct 1939 - 23 Apr 2020)

In fond memory of a dear cousin, all the happy times we had together.

In memory of Sylvia, who will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Dearest Aunty Sylvia.

You always took the time to send me a birthday card and follow my progress growing up as a young lad. I remember seeing you with my grandma and grandad at Blundell Road and sharing some happy memories in the garden. I’ve followed in your footsteps by becoming a teacher and hope to have the same positive impact on future generations like you did: ‘A good teacher is like a candle- it consumes itself to light the way for others’. Rest in peace

There’s a lot that comes to mind when I think of Gran. She always made sure that visits were fun, whether she was screaming hysterics at Repton monsters, recounting her latest run-in with a toad, or knocking the snowman into the bath (you had to be there for that one). You always learnt something as well; ranging from amateur investigation skills with Morse, the harsh realities of capitalism at the Monopoly board, or that custard went with every dessert (sometimes even trifle). But the one thing you could always count on was that she would take a real interest in everything that was happening in your life. A visit with Gran would never be complete without her learning all the details of your life, with plenty of her signature wisdom to take away with you. I believe that Gran always wanted people to be the best versions of themselves, and I hope I can continue to make her proud. I will miss her so much.

Dear Grandma,

Thank you for the many wonderful memories you have given me through the years. I look back on the many summers I spent with you with great fondness. You would always take me to the stables, and without you I would've never met my favourite horse Yorkie. You always made the best chicken dinners and fish pies, and would always sneak me a digestive or a packet of Werthers when Mum and Dad weren't looking. I've lost count of how many times we played Dominoes, Game of Life and Monopoly on the kitchen table. You taught me a lot of valuable lessons, the biggest one being that politeness and good manners goes a long way (you set a great example). I'm going to miss your cups of tea and big Grandma hugs, but I know you're looking down on us all from heaven. Rest in Peace

I knew it was a privilege to know Sylvia and I will miss her presence very much.

Although we only met Sylvia at Donald & Julie's wedding in 1998, we feel we know her well through all the letters, cards, phone calls and gifts exchanged over the years. We remember her with affection, and will always be grateful that her dear daughter Julie became our much-loved daughter-in-law.

I was so pleased to be able to meet up with Sylvia again at Rob & Emily's wedding, and at Emma's show. Her kindness and generosity towards me has always been so much appreciated, and my heart goes out to you all on her passing. In memory of happy times

I had the privilege of working closely with Sylvia for nearly 20 years and in that time she was always a joy to work with. I particularly valued the unwavering support she provided me with during those years, but more significantly I found her to be truly inspiring with her boundless ideas and determination to improve the educational experience of young people.
Sylvia was a wonderful person who will greatly be missed. x

Farewell ‘Aunty Sylvia’. Always took the time to send me well wishes every Christmas and Birthday as a boy, despite not seeing me all too often. I’ll remember your kind gestures and joyful words.

What can I say? A light and force for good has gone from the world. My lovely Mum. A true teacher, you guided by your own fine example. You were always there for me, and supported me. Always you would give so generously of your time: playing games, enlivening the school holidays, helping with project work, and all alongside a demanding job, being the homemaker and looking after Gran, and the anchor for the wider family. Your energy and drive astounds me. I admire your firm Christian faith, which never faltered. I treasure the many happy moments shared together, most recently the lovely holidays, all the home-cooked dinners, and the obligatory coffees when out on a shopping spree. Your words of encouragement, gentle sense of humour, and determination to live each day to the full. You’ve always taken an interest in what I’m up to - not only listening, but offering wise words of counsel for each particular situation. Along with all those now left behind, I mourn that loss with every passing day. I have lost my wonderful mother, friend, adviser, and mentor. I am honoured to be Sylvia’s son. The many comments here echo the selfless concern for others that was how she lived every day of her life. She taught us all what is really important in life - to love, support, and care for others. God bless you, Mum, you’ll always be in my thoughts.

I wish I had been able to spend more time with this courageous, kind lady. May she rest in the peace of Our Lord.

Auntie Sylvia, you will be greatly missed but never forgotten. My memories of you will never fade but my christmases in England will never be as good now that your legendary christmas cake will never be eaten again!

A dear friend and colleague who made a difference to peoples lives. God bless.

So many fond memories of Sylvia and much gratitude for the part she played in our family’s life since we joined the City Cluster together in 1984.
She was such a kind, considerate, supportive friend, always there with sensitive, astute advice and a down-to-earth human touch which reflected the Christian values by which she lived her life.
Sylvia was such an inspirational, loyal and reliable colleague - I learned so much working at her side. All of us at the City Cluster were in awe of her prodigious energy, the many innovations she introduced and her incredible ability to galvanise others into action to get things done. She earned such respect and admiration for the significant impact she made on the lives of so many students, teachers and fellow professionals.
Sylvia really was an exceptional woman - we feel very privileged to have known her. We only hope that her family will draw some comfort from knowing just how much-loved and highly-valued she was by so many friends and colleagues.

We have lost a kind and loving friend who we will miss so much. Our many Christmas Eves together were special times and we will always remember them. You were always there for anyone who needed your help and you will be greatly missed by so many. Our heartfelt condolences to all of Sylvia’s family.

I worked with Sylvia for a number of years in the VESA team
How to describe Sylvia?
Caring, supportive, kind, clever, funny, charismatic, determined, resilient, creative - I could go on.
As other ex colleagues have described, Sylv supported me hugely in my role when I joined the VESA Team. She had an amazing capacity for hard work but always had time for a little chat when it was needed.
She also had an incredible ability to get people on board, usually beginning with “now then!”
It was very hard to say no to Sylv!
Both as a teacher, manager and coordinator, Sylvia supported, developed and inspired successive generations of young people.
In the true sense of the word, Sylv was a legend and will not be forgotten by anybody who crossed her path. God bless Sylv x

Sylvia was such a loving, gentle presence in my life and it was a privilege to know her at church each Sunday and to work with her on church matters. Like so many others, I shall miss her so much. Hope the family are bearing up at this sad time.
