In loving memory of Colin Cheetham a former electrical contractor who sadly passed away on 25th April 2020, aged 84 years. Dearly loved husband of Margaret, loving father of Ken and Val, father in law of Rubelyn and Dave, proud grandad of Dan, Charlotte and Niall and precious great grandad of Albie George.

Colin was born in Horninglow, Burton-on-Trenton on the 31st of October 1935. He had two older sisters, Joan and Cynthia. Their father worked for Bass and they lived in one of the former Bass cottages in Horninglow Street.

Colin attended Victoria Road School and was a choir boy at Holy Trinity Church in Horninglow Street. After leaving school, Colin started work at Sharp Bros & Knight, however, but he found it rather boring putting window frames together! From there he went on to work for W T Parker Ltd as an apprentice electrician. This job took him to many parts of the country.

Because of his job, Colin was deferred from doing his National Service until he was 21 years old. He served in the RAF during the Malayan Emergency and was based at RAF Kualar Lumpur. He was always proud of his time spent there in the RAF and had always wanted to return there one day, to what is now Malaysia.

In 1964 Colin started his own electrical contracting business, initially from home in Westmead Road, Barton-under-Needwood. He would later go on to acquire business premises in Bell Lane Barton and a shop in the Main Street. He also went on to buy the shop next door, which at the time was Cox's general grocery store. He always recalled how he had bought this from the late Sir Stan Clarke, with a briefcase full of cash!

Colin had contracts with Webb Ivory and Marston's Brewery in Burton; he looked after most of Marston's pubs in the area and further afield. Many people got to know him.

Besides Burton, Colin was also well known in Carvoeiro, Portugal, a place he always referred to as his 'second home'. Having first visited Portugal in 1974, during the revolution, he would go on to become a frequent traveller to this country. The 25th of April is a significant date in the Portuguse calendar, marking revolution day. It is now a date that will be remembered by all of his family as the day he passed away.
