In loving memory of Raymond John Smith who sadly passed away on 23rd April 2020, aged 85 years. Loved and missed by all his family and friends. One of my fondest memories....
I was very young and noticed grandad had a tattoo with one of the ladies 'exposed' ...
Me being the kid I was said "grandad she's naked!" he then without hesitation pointed to 3 of his pin up girls and said one was Aunty Rose, one was Aunty Lou and one was my mum.
He pointed to the other and said that was nan.
It's stuck with me through the years and my love for Rockabilly/pin up has stemmed from this. (I think he said this to all the grandkids)
Let's also not forget his favourite (we all know deep down it was his favourite lol) "empty" across his stomach.
And his cheese on toast breakfasts were always the best.
RIP Grandad. Your humour is greatly missed by all xx

This is a photo that got Dad in a bit of trouble with Mum. Dad had a bad back, but took us to the local pool and had his camera. All day he layed flat on the benches while we swam. Derek sneakily took this photo and we all denied it when developed.

Dad's Ear:
I'm sure Ray or Jeff will correct any fine details I have got wrong but,
Dad had a nick on one of his ears. As kids, we were told that a sniper took a shot at him, when he was serving in Malaya. This tied in with a press release about him spotting "bandits" creeping up on his teams ambush. We believed it until he told us the truth five or six years ago.
It was a bullet that caused the nick, that part was true. Dad had clambered into an armoured vehicle, when his rifle accidently went off. The bullet richocheted around. I asked what his mates said.
"Bloody hell John, you could of killed us". "What did you say?", I asked. "I just told them it was lucky that I'm not a very good shot".
Ray Jeff and I would very much like you to share memories and stories about Dad on here or however you can get them to us.
