On 17th April 2020, Gwendoline (Gwen) Jacobs passed away peacefully in her sleep. Our Mother was an incredible person and had lived life to the full. Mum was born on 1st March 1931 in South Woodford; for most of her formative years she lived in Huddersfield returning to the south in her 20s where she trained and became a dispenser. Later she worked for Lloyds bank but gave this up when she met our Dad on holiday in Devon. They had a whirl wind romance and got engaged 3 months later. They were married in 1961 and moved to Weybridge in Surrey where they had, and brought up us 3 girls, Roz, Fiona and Helen.
After we all went to school, Mum trained to be a teacher; she was in her 40s by then but wasn't phased taking on a new career. When Dad retired, they moved to Somerset and made a life for themselves in the village of Low Ham. Mum belonged to lots of clubs and made many friends; even when our lovely Dad died in 1996 she stayed on in Somerset and started Open University courses which involved the need to use a computer which she took within her stride. She also travelled extensively to many places such as South Africa, India and America. In 2003 Mum decided to move closer to her family and settled in Woking where she also made many friends and joined lots of clubs at the Byfleet day centre. She also looked after other elderly people, getting their shopping and driving them to appointments even though she was by this time in her 70s.
Unfortunately in 2017 Mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's; for a few years she managed at home but in 2019 we all decided it would be safer if she lived somewhere with 24 hour care and also lots of people for Mum to talk to. We found an excellent place called Heatherside in Hook, the staff of which looked after Mum until Alzheimer's finally took her from us. She will be missed every day by us, her Grand Children Jon, Matt and Thomas, and her Son-In-Laws Terry, Simon and Neil. Rest in Peace Mum, you will forever be in our hearts.
