In loving memory of Trevor Payne, who sadly passed away on the 8th April at Highbury Hospital in Nottingham.
Trevor was a loving husband to Jean, a proud Dad to Tara, Bud, Trudy and Tracey and a doting Papa to his four grandchildren Frankie, Yasmine, Zoë and Ruby.
He arrived into the world, the third child of six to Tony and Lilly Payne, brother to Tony, Ken, David, Susan and Gillian.
Trev spent most of his working life as a Mechanical Engineer, much of it working abroad. That first opportunity came about by chance, following the path of a close friend, who was working as a Plant Manager in Saudi Arabia.
Trevor loved working with machinery and pursued his work with passion, hard work and eternal optimism, never giving up, never losing faith in whatever he was doing, even when facing huge challenges. His work took him all over the world, Nigeria, Tanzania and later to the United States: Lubbock Texas and South Carolina.
Sociable in nature, one thing Trevor did well was make a lasting impression on whoever he met. Drawing people in and making friends was something he found easy - making many lifelong friends in Nottingham and all over the world along the way. It was second nature to Trevor to see good in everyone, trusting complete strangers based on his gut feeling of someone.
Trevor had many hobbies, he was a keen snooker and squash player and spent many weekends racing go-carts in his early twenties, gaining many friends and trophies in the process.
His playful sense of humour and mischievous nature meant he was always winding people up, joking around and taking the micky (‘taking the piss’ as he would say).
Make no mistake he was no angel, he was the most infuriating poor time keeper and drove most of us crazy with his constant ‘what are you doing today?’, ‘can you give me a hand, it only take 10 minutes’ ….. and end up taking all day – or several, if you were really lucky!
In 2015, Trevor was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia. This led him to retire. If wasn’t for this misfortune, he would still be working abroad or working in his garage tinkering with his engines. Coming to terms with this condition was hard for Trevor, never wanting to give up on a cure, Trevor put his name down for every trial going and took part in several cognitive therapy sessions at St Francis House at Lings Bar Hospital – even taking up painting, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
It was only in Jan this year that Trevor’s health deteriorated further, which meant he required additional care we couldn’t provide him at home. Even in at this time, he still managed to smile, laugh and joke. Trevor received exceptional and dedicated care from all the staff at Highbury, to which the family are extremely grateful. He passed away peacefully after contracting Coronavirus.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic and social distancing restrictions, a small, private family burial service will take place this week, with a memorial service to be arranged at a later date, to which all friends and family will be welcome.
