Shared memories and thoughts of Jean and Don
I am Jean's kid brother by 10 years, the 'baby' of our family. I have an early but enduring image of Jean tearing off to work on her semi drop handlebar bike!
When they were courting I remember how kind Don was to me as a young boy. Bikes he grew out of, a model yacht he taught me to sail, a trip to the National Model Railway Exhibition.
Years later Don picked us up from Chippenham Station with the news of JFK's assassination.
Other memories include when we hung on for dear life as Jean hurtled round Portsmouth like it was her own personal Brands Hatch!
A memorable morning in Bosham with Jean and Don along with our sister Kate, drinking coffee while watching a gleaming sports car get swallowed by the incoming tide, surrounded by warning notices!
Jean's smile and laughter will be remembered by us and many others.
On each of our last two visits we took in M & S sandwiches, desserts and a selection of cream cakes for lunch. We were like four big kids at a party!
For us, good memories of sometimes infrequent but now precious times with Jean and Don.
Our thoughts remain with their family and extended family.

I didn't know Don but I met Jean through Greatham Book Club where she was a lively member and will be sadly missed. My condolences to all the family.

I still can't believe they're gone and that I will be unable to attend the funeral today. I'll be there in spirit, and will attend the wake in person as soon as circumstances allow.

Thank you, Nana and Grandad, for everything you have done for me over the last 33 years, all the lifts from school, to town, to parties, the childcare, Grandad's bike, Grandad's old computer, the lunches on my Year 10 work experience in your village.

Wow,what a great couple.It has been my privilege to know a little of Jean and Don over the recent past.I looked forward to my Wednesday morning visits,it was never a chore and we often shared a funny story or two.
I learned what a talented artist and photographer Don was
amongst his many other qualities.Despite his struggle with Parkinsons ,you could nearly always see a lovely twinkle in his eyes.
Jean often shared her poetry with me.We also shared several things in common.....a good read,crosswords,a tipple or two and a good party!.Her lovely group of keep-fit ladies always spoke of Jeans great sense of humour and fun.

Many happy memories of these wonderful neighbours during our 18 years in Todmore. Our love and thoughts are with their family as this very sad time.

I am Jean’s younger sister Kate. My earliest memory of Jean and I is when we were evacuated during the war. I remember us standing in a large noisy London station with gas masks around our necks. We were holding hands tightly as we had been told we must not be separated, luckily we weren’t.
O our return home we shared a bedroom until Jean married Don, I was overjoyed at having a bedroom to myself!
We always kept in close touch even though we both moved several times, we shared many happy visits and my children and Jean’s grew up together.
Jean had a tough time as Don’s carer these last few years and I have the greatest admiration for the way she coped and still managed to maintain her sense of humour.
For many years we always phoned each other on Sunday morning and it will take a while for me to adjust to not speaking to her every week.

Don, you were always so well presented, you knew just what to say at the right time with your witty comments that would have us all laughing! Holly & Freddie adored you, passing you your drink, making sure you didn't miss out and always making sure you were hugged before leaving.
Jean, you always loved a little boogie and a tipple of sherry, always watered down so you didn't get too drunk. You always knew the right thing to say, I really enjoyed your company.
I'm sorry Harry never got the chance to meet either of you, but we will tell him about you both and how legandary you both are.

Very happy memories of meeting Don and Jean at Pete and Julia's over the years.
They were such kind people.

So sad about my Uncle Don and Auntie Jean (Jeanie Bean as my dad called her!) every time I was at Mums I would chat to Jean when she rang my Mum..they were both real characters and dealt with things amazingly..so sad and especially Jean it was not her time...thoughts and love to you all..so sorry Mum and me cant come to funeral but we will be there in spirit and need to get together when this life gets back to normal and celebrate their lives. xxx

Dearest Don and Jean have been our neighbours for 16 years and how lucky we were to have them. Jean was always smiling and elegantly dressed and they were a lovely couple who will be greatly missed by everyone in our close. Rest in peace together now forever.

Such a sad time to have lost 2 wonderful people. Grandad was always so kind and wanted to hear all the stories we had to tell, always felt so welcomed by him. And my god that man put up a fight! And nan, what a wonderful bundle of joy she was. Always filled the room with energy, and loved a dance. At chelsy and shauns wedding, I remember her using every bit of strength to get up a steep set of stairs, and on arrival was offered a seat to rest. Of course she waved us off and headed straight for the dance floor and stayed there all night. Rest well together.
