Funeral Director
In memory of an unbelievable Mum, Wife, Sister, Daughter, Friend, Aunty and most importantly Mama.
As most of you will be aware, given the current circumstances we are not able to hold the funeral that mum would have wanted. In light of this we have come up with a plan which we hope will allow those of you that want to the chance to follow mum's final journey.
Mum will leave from Abby's house at around 10.30am on Wednesday the 22nd April. We will travel up to and then along the length of Old Farm Road in Top Valley passing by the top of Torkard Drive the childhood home of mum. If you wish to follow social distancing guidelines and see Mum on her final journey, please be on Old Farm Road to see her pass by between 10.30 and 11.00. We will then continue on to the Northern cemetery where we will bury Mum. We are only allowed 15 people for this part of the service. You are welcome to be anywhere along this route to say your goodbyes and pay your respects.
Hopefully in July if the world returns to a level of normality we will then hold a memorial service and a huge celebration of life party for what would of been mum's birthday. We will keep every body informed of any plans closer to the time.
MUM this is for you!
Lorraine Dawn Davidson, previously known as Herod (Nee Allsop) was born on Monday 24th July 1961 to proud parents Jean Allsop and Derrick Allsop. She joined her brother Paul at her childhood home - 4 Torkard Drive, a home her own children would grow up in, in years to come. She was loved instantly!
She often told stories of her childhood. Stories of how she would go to the shop for her mum and ask for fags on tic. Or when they didn't have enough money for the rent man, my Grandad - her dad would shout for them to hide. She often told of the fun times she would have walking through the estate and to the Manning Grammar Girls School -a school that at the time proved just how intelligent she was. She told us that her Dad used to be so proud of her for passing the test required for her to get in that she had no choice in the matter and had to attend - despite the fact that there were no boys! In fact she hated going there so much that a few years later she transferred to Padstow Comprehensive; a school well known for its strictness. She once told us that the head master upset her so much that my Grandad stormed up there and gave him what for! :-) She smiled when remembering the memories she shared of her and her brother Paul - someone well known for a full head of dark curly hair at the time!
She remembers vividly the black mariah (police wagons) coming round where she lived and everyone running. Getting caught was not an option! Although she did say that being caught would have been better then having to face her Dad Derrick! haha
She was an avid dancer as a child and collected a variety of trophies and medals for ballroom. She loved music!
At secondary school she met and fell in love with Brad Herod. Later marrying him and welcoming two daughters, Carly and Abby. They later separated but their daughters were always the main priority.
She worked for a short time as a pharmacist, then worked at the Job Centre before being medically retired in 2004.
She later met Gary, and after a few years courting they married on the 26th July 1997 - blending their families together by bringing Gary's son Daniel into the family. What memories we have!
In 2018 - after 20 years together they renewed their wedding vows in front of their closest friends and family. A vow they both took seriously and a vow that she takes to her grave! My Mum was Gary's everything and he took care of her everyday. She loved him very, very much!
Mum was loved my so many people! She has friends everywhere! It was hard to not like her! She was infectious and her lovely smiley face was hard to resist! She loved spending time with her friends; whether it be in a pub in her younger years or in Arnold Costa in the later years!
She was a woman who looked after herself! She had the most beautiful skin - with people often commenting on it. When people found out she had grown up children and grandchildren they would be shocked, often saying she didn't look old enough! Many times she was mistaken as our sister instead of our mum!
She loved her jewellery, had her hair blow-dried every week and how can we forget the nails! Never would she be seen without her beloved nails painted in a bright, crazy colour!
But the thing she was best at - the thing that she loved the most was her grandchildren!
She was the best mum to Carly, Abby and Daniel but being a Mama was her calling!
Mama Raine showered love and presents on her grandchildren all the time! She could not buy one without the other and was known for having the best treats in her house! She was proud of her grand-kids! Regan, Freya, Caelan and Harper will miss her forever!
Sadly her battle with ill health ended her life on Saturday 4th April 2020. At 10.20pm she took her last breath. She fought with such strength and dignity. She literally fought with every fibre in her body! We all thought she had longer, thought she would come through this as she has so many other times but it wasn't meant to be - she was tired and who can blame her. We are all left with a giant sized hole in our hearts but we must remember who she was and what she meant to so many! Do not let grief take away the beautiful memories you have!
