I am sorry to learn of the passing of Mr. Vickery. 37 years ago I was a wayward, semi homeless college teenager friend of Mathew. Mr. Vickery was concerned for my wellbeing and he and Mrs. Vickery took me into their home. It proved to be a sanctuary that kept me out of trouble long enough for my father, who had emigrated to the United States, to be able to make arrangements to bring me over. I have always felt that had it not been for the intervention of Mr. and Mrs Vickery I, most likely, would not have survived that period because I was on a very self destructive path. The Vickerys intervention arrested that and kept me out of trouble long enough to qualify for immigration into the United States. The Vickerys tought me the importance of a loving and supportive family, something I had forgotten when my own parents had divorced. I was able to find the support of my new family in America and have not looked back since. I regret not having thanked Mr. Vickery for his kindness properly, but I take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Vickery for hers.
I remember Mr. Vickery's fondness for jazz music and the Princess he used to drive. He also put up with the dreadful racket we used to make in the shed out back during band practice.
Thanks to the whole family for everything you did for me all those years ago.
Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss,
Tim Silo
