Margaret Hemsley (22 Oct 1954 - 12 Mar 2020)
In loving memory of Margaret Hemsley who sadly passed away on 12th March 2020 at Beccles Hospital after a long fight with brain Cancer, she wasn’t in any pain but her passing was not expected at this time.
Margaret Susan Hemsley (Marg, Maggs, Maggie) was born 22nd October 1954 in Lowestoft to Peggy and Frank Shreeve.
Sister to Beverley Ann Lee.

Daughter Kelly
Granddaughters Rosie, Daisy, Talia, Maia.
Maggs was a very warm and lovely person, she was loved by so many, her family and many friends from all over the world expressed their sadness at Maggs leaving us so soon.
Maggs early life was in Lowestoft, Suffolk, went to schools in North Lowestoft.
Finishing at Harris Girls School.
Started a hair dressing apprenticeship at Hilarys hair salon, Lowestoft.
Attended Great Yarmouth hairdressing college.
Became a very good stylist, entered competitions and qualified for a national final.
Met Paul Hemsley and married October 4th 1975.
Bought their first house July 1975, the terrace house was modernised and became their first family home.
1978 25th July - Kris Neil (son) born.
1979 November. Moved to Calton Colville, Lowestoft.
1980 16th January - Kelly Marie (daughter) born.
1981 November. Moved to Bradwell, Norfolk.
Joined Hillside first school parents association became an active member in fund raising and participated in shows and events over the next few years. Kelly remembers her doing a whole dance routine to 'Rock around the clock' and 'Daisy Daisy’.
Summer weekends were spent with family and friends with regular trips to Blythburgh ‘Toby walks’. The school summer holidays were spent on Lowestoft beach after Maggs had organised a beach hut rental from the local council.
The beach hut is still in use to this day.
Maggs enrolled Kris and Kelly in the GY swimming club. Kris and Kelly both became regular members of the swimming team, competing across the country in club and open galas.
Maggs became a regular and recognised spectator on the poolside.
1987 May: Moved house (Bradwell).
1988, Maggs decided to go back to work. Wanted to work from 10 AM to 2 PM so she would be home when school finished. Started at Adams children’s wear and moved to Thorntons Chocolate shop (bringing home weekly delicious treats) and moved to Peacocks clothing shop (1998) working full time.
Maggs enjoyed working in retail, colleagues and customers alike warmed to her smile and friendly nature.
In 1988, the family had a family holiday of a lifetime (with Nannie Peggy) in Florida USA and Walt Disney world. Many other holidays over the years to Tenerife, Malta, France, Majorca, Ibiza, Cyprus, Grand Canary, Portugal, Spain, Greece.
2000 October - Paul and Maggs 25th wedding anniversary was in New York, USA.
Many of the Schlumberger wives remember Maggs for her great sense of humour and giggling at the company celebrations and Christmas parties.
2002. First granddaughter Rosie born.
2003 Paul and Maggs left the UK and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA.
Quickly found an apartment which became their home.
Maggs figured out the roads in Tulsa very quickly, using the car compass she made her way around Tulsa and loved driving her jeep around Tulsa.
Maggs joined the Schlumberger Spouses Association and had many laughs and giggles with the other women living in and around Tulsa.
They were visited by friends and family over the 5 years in Tulsa and took everyone to see the Oklahoma City Memorial without fail.
Many holidays - San Francisco, Las Vegas, Chicago, New Orleans, Memphis, Grand Canyon, Mexico, were taken while in the USA. While in Tulsa Maggs won her one and only gold medal, a two hour endurance go-kart race with 3 others. Maggs was very happy to win the medal, her smile was radiant.
Maggs would be the only female on many of Schlumberger training school leaving dinners. Many technicians still remember Maggs for her smile and happy nature.
Maggs loved the ‘float trips’ down the local rivers.
All day spent floating down the river on a raft, laughing and giggling even when falling in the river.
2005. Second granddaughter Daisy born
In January 2008, Abu Dhabi beckoned, Paul and Maggs relocated to the other side of the world.
This was the to become an exceptional time in Maggs life.
After joining Abu Dhabi Ladies, many long lasting friendships were forged, the ‘famous five’ still talk about Maggs smile and happiness today.
Finally, after driving for 30+ years, Maggs finally got a convertible car, and she quickly mastered Abu Dhabi roads and had great fun driving around the capital.
2008 saw the start of Maggs love affair with Ikea with so many hours walking around the store.
Lots of visits from the family and friends, Maggs loved to take people around UAE.
Many holidays around the region and beyond to Lebanon, Cyprus, Singapore, Thailand, Tokyo, China and Australia.
Number 1 on Maggs bucket list was to walk up the China great wall. In 2012 and despite the distance Maggs ticked off this task. Maggs completed the walk to the top and was delighted.
A road trip to Oman with the roof down, wind in her hair and sun on her face.
Maggs enjoyed many weekends away in 5 star hotels in the UAE.
Loads of hours walking around the shopping malls in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Maggs liked concerts and went to many during the ‘concert sessions’ at Yas Island.
Watching F1 car racing was another passion and Maggs purchased tickets to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix more than once and was a huge fan of Lewis Hamilton.
The F1 weekend was a fantastic show, the race, many concerts, loads of laughs and giggles.
So many glorious memories.
Maggs also liked a cup of tea, shopping days would start with a cup of tea and cake, many times the shopping trip would be rushed as talking, laughing and giggling would take over and so leave very little time for shopping.
Trips home to the UK twice a year, Maggs looked forward to Christmas with the Family.
Maggs was not good at accepting change but once she got use to her new surroundings she was a delight to be with. Maggs was also very shy, once over the shyness Maggs would relax and people saw the lovely person that Maggs was.
In November 2013, Paul and Maggs transferred to Paris, France.
Moved to a 2 bed apartment South of Paris which was quickly turned into a home.
Moving to Paris meant easier trips home to the UK and for visitors to come to Paris
Many road trips, either back to the UK or throughout France.
Maggs organised tickets for Spanish GP in Barcelona. A 2 week vacation was taken driving along the Mediterranean coast.
Weekends in Nantes, Champagne region, Normandy, Tours, Atlantic coast, Christmas Winter market, Strasbourg.
Many weekend hours walking around Paris, Luxembourg Park…Maggs favourite Paris park, so full of colours, life and happiness.
Trip to Koh Sami, Thailand. Nephew Arron and Becky's wedding on the beach.
Trip to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Summer days and nights on the Seine, bottle of wine and French Baguettes.
Music concerts.
Trips to Ikea, either to buy stuff or just to ‘have a look’ and to have cups of tea.
Italian Grand Prix in Milan, followed with a road trip to the Italian Mediterranean Coast.
Visiting Bergen, Norway, Paul setting alight to Maggs coat.
2017….Finding out Maggs had a tumour and her first brain operation.
2017. Third granddaughter Talia born,
2017 October, Paul and Maggs returned to Bradwell to continue her fight against cancer.
2018…Finally got to visit the set of Emmerdale.
June 2019, Moved back to Lowestoft to be near family and friends.
2019. Fourth granddaughter Maia born - delighted she got to meet her.
Maggs was a fighter, fought the cancer for over 3 years, the doctors called her a miracle.
Thanks to all the medical and support staff in Paris, Norfolk & Norwich hospital, James Paget hospital, Big-C, Beccles Hospital, Bradwell Medical Centre, Louise Hamilton Centre, Marie Curie nurses and East coast nurses for all their care and attention over the last 3 years.
Maggs....Gone but never forgotten, love you loads.
