In loving memory of Brian Lawrence Marriott who sadly passed away on 16th March 2020, Brian Lawrence Marriott was born in Nottingham on Tuesday the tenth of May 1938. He was one of four born to Winifred and Arthur Marriott, his sisters were Ivy, Jean and Rita.. As a child Brian attended Old Basford school, later completing his secondary education at Ellis Guilford school before going into employment as a fire stoker on the railway. Brian loved this job and it is a known fact that his childhood sweetheart Annie, whom later became his wife would often wait for him at lough borough and wave to him as he passed by. The railway was something Brian loved and in later years became his hobby, he loved collecting railway memorabilia and regularly visited railway exhibitions and museums. Brian was called up to do his National Service January 1957, while doing his Army service he travelled to many places and would often send cards home to his mum and sweetheart telling of his journeys, he was taught to drive and maintain both tracked and wheeled vehicles, this gave him an advantage for employment once his service was completed. Once back in civilian life he gained employment as a lorry driver and then later became a Bus driver. Brian married Annie 11th March 1960 at Nottingham Shakespeare st Registry office. The couple proudly had 7 children, 2 sons and 5 daughters, sadly one son Brian Andrew passed away in infancy at 6 months. Brian and Annie continued to live happily married for 53 years until sadly August 2013 his world collapsed when his wife left his side. Brian struggled to accept his loss and became somewhat isolated from his family and friends but with the persistence of his daughter, he began to accept help, allowing his children to lift him up again, he was cared for and supported, he was loved and protected and slowly began to enjoy life again. Unfortunately Brian had a number of underlying illnesses that were sadly to much for him to bear and he sadly passed away 16th March 2020 with all his children, some grandchildren and his sister around him.
