Gill Poore donated £20 in memory of Sally

In memory of our lovely, smiley, Sally. One of life characters, always full of fun and mischief, worked hard and played even harder. Shared some wonderful holidays, which I will never forget, even though I could never go to sleep on the sunbed, as sally could and would be able to chat from morning till night, never a dull moment my little friend. Bet Digger is with you now telling you to shut the f--k up. Love you Sal, sleep well xx

Hey Aunty Sal, I can’t quite believe that you are gone. For me you had such a lust for life and quite frankly were a force of nature! I owe you my best childhood memories, thank you for letting me share your family (and ponies!) for so long. Gallop off into the sunset and you leave so many people with so many fabulous memories x

A Holiday Romance

I first set eyes on Sally in June 1985.
I was on a family holiday to Majorca and our flight from Newcastle had been delayed. When we arrived at Palma airport we were ushered quickly to an awaiting coach to take us to our hotel. (little did we know that passengers from the Gatwick flight had been waiting a long time for our flight to arrive)
When arriving at our hotel, after taking our luggage into reception, I spotted Sally with her elderly Aunt Maisie struggling with luggage, so I went to give them a hand. One thing I do remember is when I put the cases down by Sally she didn’t look too impressed and never even got a thank you (Aunt Maisie did). I think the long wait for our flight to arrive hadn’t helped.
It wasn’t until about 3 days before the end of the holiday that I actually got talking to Sally and found out she was on holiday with her 2 older children Charlotte and Luke and she had twin boys at home, Oliver and Samuel. She then found out that I was with my 2 children, Kirstin and Laurie and one of the girls I was with, who she thought was my wife, was in fact my sister (she seemed a bit more interested in me then)
It was only a few days and then we were leaving to go home. We exchanged numbers and I said I would be in touch.

Was this to be just a holiday romance? The answer as you all know was a resounding NO!.

I called Sally after one week (playing hard to get). I don’t know how I lasted that long as I was desperate to speak to her again. Lots and lots of phone calls from the local phone box later and I had arranged to come and visit (no mobiles in those days)
Many trips to and from Newcastle and Sally also visiting me it didn’t take long to realise we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. That meant looking for jobs and fortunately I found one at the Brook Hospital in Woolwich and I finally moved down to Kent in April 1986. It was meant to be, and our wonderful adventure started. We had some bad times as well as so many good (no great) times together. The great times are too numerous to mention now but they will always be etched on my heart and Sally has taken them with her.
After 16 years of being together it was my Mam and the children who thought we should get married and we did on the 20th July 2002, the most magical day of my life, shared with so many family and friends. Sally only had 1 regret, her Dad was not able to witness it, but I am sure he was watching over her.
We had another 17 years together as a married couple and boy did we pack in some wonderful times. As we had met on holiday it only seemed fitting that we carried on holidaying. We visited so many places, both in this country and abroad, with the children, on our own and with friends.

Who said holiday romances never last?

It did for us for 34 wonderful years.

You will always be with me, my rock, my best friend, my loving partner, my very gorgeous wife, MY EVERLASTING HOLIDAY ROMANCE.

I LOVE YOU SALLY xxx
