In loving memory of Dennis 'Den' Hubert Layzell from Benfleet, who sadly passed away on 28th February 2020, peacefully in his sleep at Southend Hospital where he had been staying after a number of episodes of illness.
Den was a devoted family man; grandfather to Ted, father to three daughters and husband to beloved wife Margaret to whom he was married for 65 years. A Benfleet man pretty much his whole life, as a boy he lived next to the railway line by Benfleet Station and went to school in School Lane (now sadly a car park). In his early years he trained and worked as an instrument maker at Ekco in Southend but after he married Margaret they bought and ran a successful Fish and Chip shop in Benfleet for many years. A lover of many sports, Den particularly enjoyed golf, bowls, walking and caravanning. He and Margaret spent many happy times in their caravan touring the UK and Europe.
Den was also very much involved with the Benfleet Rotary Club for many years and that is why we have chosen them as his charity for funeral donations, should you so wish to do so. In his later years, Den had a number of periods of illness and as a result was no longer able to get out and about so much. So it is a comfort to us all to know that he is at peace now and no longer suffering. He will be sadly missed.
Rest in Peace Den. We love you. Margaret, Sandra, Paul, Ted, Tricia, Neil, Jacqui and Dave xxxx
