In loving memory of Rita Jane Glover who sadly passed away on 13th February 2020
Rita was born on the 22nd May 1927 in Clapham, South London. She was the only child of George and Minnie Harper.
She attended Tiffin’s Girls’ School in Kingston before going on to study music at the Royal Academy of Music.
She was both a sporty and musical child and joined many operatic groups during the 1950s.
At this time she was also playing tennis and throughout the 1950s she regularly entered the qualifying competition for the Wimbledon Ladies singles and ladies doubles.
In 1957 she was successful in reaching the main draw in the ladies doubles where she won a round with her partner Sydney Brock.
In 1954 she married Lance Glover, who was also a tennis player and they moved out of London into Lower Kingswood, Surrey.
In 1966 she gave birth to her only child Lynne and used her musical talent in teaching the piano.
She continued both playing tennis and singing, joining various musical groups and playing tennis at Banstead LTC, Redhill LTC, Horley LTC and Reigate LTC.
In 1985 sadly Lance died. Rita found this a very tricky time and remained loyal to him until the end.
When her daughter moved to Salisbury Rita followed where she continued to play tennis and spend time with her two grandchildren: Jess and Jonny.
She passed away on Thursday 13th February having fallen over playing tennis where she had broken her hip.
